Bobbed deuce question

What is the difference between bobbed and un bobbed in regards to towing ability, offroad ability, Ride quality (with duece front springs in rear), and fuel mileage? Thanks

I would search around in the deuce/ hot-rod section. There have been a 100000000000000 posts on this with pictures and detailed explanations.
I think you LOW BALLED the number of post by quite a bit

I have read these forums for several months before joining so that I might ask questions. I find that most post seem to be one sided in favor of an individuals personal taste. I am desiring facts, generally derived from people experienced with all or most of the areas in question. I wasnt trying to wear on anyones patience.

The pros and cons are pretty obvious just by looking at the two side by side. 6X6 will get you farther in the mud and alow you to carry more. Bobbed is going to be better in anything tight or twisty and its going to be lighter and get better MPG's but not by much. The ride quality? Well a deuce is deuce, it aint a cadillac weather bobbed or not (unless you go full air bag susp) Towing? I believe a deuce is rated to only tow 10k. If its bobbed your losing 1/3 of your braking ability and you have to depend on how well the rear frame was put back together with the pintle hitch to trust pulling a trailer with it.

From what i have seen from the bobbed deuces on the same trails as I, they are not as capable off road. I know for a fact that they don't tow as well, I was towed by a bobber and had to apply the brakes when it's rear end was pushed around while towing my truck. I doubt the mpgs would be better as they have the same dis-ability, 6.71 gears in the axles, yes you can go a little larger in the tire dept., but not much. I do agree the shorty deuces have an advantage in tight areas. All this considered, I'd still like to build one some day. YMMV

I had mine supersingled with 395s for better than a month before i babbed it. That being said The bobber is great the turning is alot better, the parking is better, the ground clearance and offroading arent realy any better. Also the fuel is not any better but i can run 60mph down the freeway 2350rpm it will go faster but i dont think its safe. Just depends what you want to do with it. I have a couple thousand miles on mine in the last few months:driver: Good luck!!

Also, something to consider - in CA the difference between bobbed and not, is class C vs class B license ;-).

I drove mine (singled) ~750 miles for a ecovery and then bobbed it. I noticed immediately that bobbed is less slugggish/gets up to speed more quickly, gets slightly better mileage, turns infinitely better, has much better unladen braking and looks meaner - but that last one might be personal opinion.

I also noticed that I can haul significantly less (still more than I need, but no way around the fact that I chopped 3' off the back off the truck), I carry less 'spare' tires with me, and I no longer have that cool tandem suspension in the back or any troop seats. I haven't tried towing with it since the bob.

At the end of the day most people don't really need a full-size deuce, so much of what you will find here will be opinion. That being said, there are folks that really do need the full capacity of the deuce, and for them the question of bobbing is a simple one. For me a full size duece would have meant a class B license; and I have never once thought "dangit, this 9' bed is just not long enough.......

Just make shure you add lockers if you bob at least on the rear. Then be real nice to wife/ girlfriend/ mother and hope they get you lockers for the front for Christmas. Now thats saying you want to play in the mud. If your just going to keep it on the street for looks then you don't need lockers.
