Hey Wreckerman, I'm just about ready to look at that farm you mentioned! How much snow do you get on average? Do your senators stay home? Can I actually drive a military vehicle on the road without worrying about which law or laws I'm breaking? I know the old "You can run but you can't hide" applies here, but a southern climate with a few more sane people in the area sure is tempting!

FV glad you mentioned Corvair's. I alway's wanted to send a letter to Nader and ask him why he never crusaded against all the dangerous import junk. Corvair's must have been pretty good car's as I still see them cruising around 4 decade's later. I'd rather drive one of those than the dmv's mouthpiece chosen recalled import. Before that they went after 59 chevy's because of the fins supposedly causing rollover (must not have been too bad as one took the daytona 500 that year) Since an awol senator chaired this committee I am suprised his connection has not been brought up. I believe it is partially a crusade against all vintage iron, plus a crusade against diesel. It's not about fuel-economy (unless they are worried about lost tax) if you drop a 6.2 in a 65 impala it will pull 30mpg or better-check youtube for one blowing away a lambrogini.

If you are having problems in Wisconsin contact Gov. Walker as he is top dog in the state not some awol senator. The problems lie at the top!

VTwin,

My Dad owned a black Corvair station-wagon, with red leather interior. Here in Wisconsin, that car had a curious habit. Due to a flat belly pan in the front and it's rear engine, when he'd hit a snowdrift, it would float up and over the snow. When that happened, the rear end of the car would suddenly overtake the front, leaving you to exit the snowbank backwards.

Don't get me wrong, he still rues the day he traded it in. But from my experience, Mr. Nader may have had a valid point.

Okay, now back to green trucks...

nader didn't like swing axles....... on Corvairs... VDubs , mercedes and porSHUHs didn't bother him. I'm hoping to outlive him, he's on my "whiz on grave" list... 8)

I see some possibilities there...

I doubt it is breaking the law, at least nothing on it says it is.
Is this from an Iltis? Interesting, as they weren't exactly legit in the US for road use. And no civvy version was ever sold here...

I guess they are allowed in under the DOT/EPA exemptions for vehicles over XX years of age?

I'll chime in here... Staff, you're missing the point. Those hack title shops you reference that offer you a 'title' have zip to do with what's occurring in Wisconsin. Undy & the Wisconsin MV folk have a handle on this cluster-f that WisDOT is trying to whiff out of their hind-parts....

What is occurring in 'The Oppressed-People's Republik of Wisconsin' is the efforts of someone on the DOT having a pitbull up their tailpipe in regards to old cars/MV's/etc... Undy & his fellow MV'ers are working to 'alleviate' this boil on the a** of humanity in the state...

Keep up the good fight, Gentlemen!

Only one time that I recall. It took a tractor to pull us up out of the field. As a kid, it was pretty exciting! :jumpin:

Staff,

You bring up an interesting point. In our discussions with WisDOT, they've mentioned that when they get a title in from another state, part of their research has to do with asking when that title was registered. If it was just a few weeks prior, they have a pretty good idea it was "title washed".

It's hard enough trying to get them to title and register fully legitimate vehicles. I don't even want to start thinking about ones of dubious pedigree.

Since this absurd crusade against tough green truck's is nationwide I encourage anyone with a standard civvy version 73-86 chevy truck/blazer, 70's dodge, jeep etc. Mimic the military camo paint. If carc paint can't be had a satin/denim clear should work. If this non-sense stand's I'll consider painting a 2000+ silverado to look like a canadian Milverado. Just thinking about how confusing it would be to focus on hmv's with a large number of clone's on the road. Maybe I'll go the other way and pimp my CUCV. just picture a M1009 with 20+ inch escalade rim's spinners, next to nothing for rubber, lowered and painted with a gaudy urban mural equipped with a thumping sound system capable of rattling window's loose and dropping apple's. How about a rat-rod willie's with sidepipe's and flame's.........Exuse me today, I think I caught up on sleep and overdid the coffee this morning. And really I would rather be flogged than drive a pimped out suv.
