UncleMikey, thanks for the pics for perspective. I'm doing exactly the same thing. Bought a pair of step tanks off of heavytruckparts.net last year for that exact purpose. In fact, they look like the same model of tank.

You know what they say, Great Minds ...

Usually those tanks are strapped with rubber under the bands. Have you noticed any rubbing issues with the tank?

When I looked into strapping my tank in, most of the guys said to use old fire hose. Seems rubber gets eaten by fuel spilled on it and it traps moisture to cause rust.

Unforgiven. I will run hard rubber under the straps or some heavy thin carpet or something when I mount it in place for the last time. I still have some work to do, I am about half way there now. So far I am happy with the out come. Glad to hear someone else is doing the same thing. From one great mind to another. [thumbzup]

Excellent idea Gimpy!

If you use firehose, make sure you get the polyester cover. Some hoses are covered by a cotton exterior, it rots fast. 1 1/2" firehose is the right size to use, just wide enough, and nice and skinny when compressed.
