Looking for a stripped MKT in Western USA

I've been looking for an EMPTY MKT.

As I don't want it to have anything in it, I guess the model does not matter.

I just want the empty shell.

I have an odd idea I would like to try. I have not seen anyone else try this idea, so I'll keep it to myself until I find one.

IF it works, I'll post the results. Otherwise, I'll just chalk it up to another failed experiment. As I've had several failures in the past, I don't have high hopes, but for every failure, I move closer to achieving my goals.

So anyone got an empty MKT they want to part with? CHEAP is good. Free would be better. Hey, you don't ask, you don't get.

I promise a good home for it. And no, I'm not going to cut it up or anything, just and odd idea I had one day...

LA is closer than Maryland.

I watched a couple go in CA for major bucks.

Plus, I've got a friend that could pick it up and drag it to Texas for me. Then I could meet up with him... you know how that goes.

So, if you've got the contact info, I'd love to give it a shot. thx

If you do find one and it has any parts there are lots of us who need stuff out there so post up don't just scrap it out. Heck I need a griddle and poles for mine just to start.

If I DO find one and it HAS any parts, YOU BETCHA.

Probably shipping and a very minor fee to defray fuel. I want the big empty for this project.

==============

Besides, I am already working on converting an M101A1 into a field kitchen trailer. I've accumulated almost all of the pieces. I'll start the build out of wood. I'll run it a season and see what I need to modify before making it out of steel and aluminum.

I got two high pressure double burner (60k btu's each) stove tops, with a griddle for under $200 from Camp Chef. I caught a KILLER sale so I stocked up.

I already have a low pressure double burner (two 30k btu burners) from them that I've used for more than ten years. And a couple of high pressure single burner stove tops that were made for turkey frying (I even got a nice tall pot to fry with) for $30 from Lowes after Xmas three years ago. I'm considering one propane oven from Camp Chef.

Then I have been taking measurements and I can store five propane bottles in the front section. All our cook gear in the middle part and the two double burners with griddles will be at the rear.

Pull up, drop the rear gate, remove the cover from that section and you can cook. I have an EZ UP Quik Shade that works well, as it's a 12x12 so that covers the trailer and about three feet over the rear. Plus it's tall enough that unless there is a severe flareup, I can't see that it would be at risk.

Plus, in the LONG RUN, I'm considering a design similar to the one from Carlin Manufacturing, the CF-200G Towable Kitchen. So in the long run, there will be a hard top (for mounting a couple of PV solar panels to keep a couple of batteries charged up) and fold out sides for shade and cover from the weather.

Short term I won't have a hard top or hard sides. It will just be a big flat box (M101) to carry everything in. I'll fab sections and the top out of plywood and 2x4's. Then paint the top of it to match the trailer, some kind of OD green.

If that has anything on it the price is cheap. I just helped another SS member pick one up for $1k and I paid nearly that much for mine off of GL after fees (of course they had everything but the burners).

There were a bunch that went at Ft Meade recently that were totally stripped. I didn't see what those went for.

I saw several in CA last month go for almost $4k. And they were missing tons of stuff. These days, the prices are rising for what ever reason.

The ones at Ft Meade won't go up for auction until next week. And there are several choices, from a 'flat bed' type of trailer to a full empty MKT with the top and fold down walkway sides, but nothing else.

Don't know what your plans are for the MKT, but Smith and Edwards over by Oden had some a while ago. Most were in somewhat poor condition, no tops, no guts. Don't know about them now, might be worth a call. Will look forward to hear your plans are for the MKT. They are a little funny looking, but what a wonderful trailer they are. I love mine, it is a empty unit I have made for cargo. Makes a 105 look small, but still less weight. Keep a lookout on G.L., the empty units don't go for that much, and if you don't need a top they go cheep. I will keep a eye out on this side of the range for you. Good Luck!

There's one for sale locally, San Antonio area, (she had 3) for $1k. It's missing the griddle and all the burners but looks pretty complete other than that. A friend bought one from her last week and it turned out to be in better condition than what I got off GL back in Nov. Another one sold at Hooks, TX 2 weeks ago, also missing the griddle, for $1865 plus GL fee and taxes but it did have the MBUv3s with it. A couple had the control panels opened on them so I had questions about whether they were working units or not.

With the price of aluminum right now I imagine they're worth quite a lot in scrap.

And $1k for an empty is a bit more than I can afford.
Well for a grand it's got the ovens, cabinets, etc. Those could be scrapped or sold but by the time you get it hauled home it'd be cheaper spending a little more on one locally if available.

Location was one of the reasons I bought mine when I did. Since it was at Ft Sam I only had to haul it about 40 miles. That's why I was willing to overlook 2 flat tires, a bent landing gear, shredded travel wrap, and a WHOLE lot of rust on the frame. I can fix all of those things cheaper than shipping 5400 pounds half way across the country.
