NOS hood for 86 M1028

The origional hood suprisingly is not reinforced, just a crease up the middle. Does anyone know of anyone with a NOS hood. I have a new set of troop seats I would gladly trade for it. Any takers..?

You might pay a fortune for one, I can't remember ever seeing one for sale in NOS condition at any rally I've been at. Are there any junkyards in your area with mid-80s Chevys? I'd be surprised if they didn't have at least a usable one....

I wanted to trade a set of troop seats for it. I saw one on ebay NOS went for $90.00 I got home to late to get it. Hey thanks for the advise.

Colmans used to have them, cheap too. Don't see them in the last catalog though.

Shermanparts.com has hoods listed for $237 there are on 28mile & vandyke in Washington .

I will agree having OEM parts are much better, but if you are not going for a true vintage collector truck then buy an aftermarket hood. I have a Certifit hood on my M1009 and it fits fine and just strong as OEM. I would prefer OEM or NOS, but this was actually free to me and mine needed to be replaced.

To keep the hood from getting that kink, keep the springs oiled. That is how they kink when you open and close them the springs are rusted and do not move freely, so the stress is taken out on the center of the hood.

Lmc truck sells reinforcing strips for these hoods to prevent bending!!!!
Gotta watch useing these those stiffeners these hoods were made to crumple there in case of a wreck they will go through the windshield with nasty results otherwise. I just bought three hoods off suburbans in my friends junkyard rustfree fourty dollars each the hoods on the CUCVs seem much thinner than later model suburban and pick up truck hoods most CUCV hoods have dips and cracks in the center rib and tend to seperate causing the hood not to pop when the release cable is pulled. I replace all my CUCV hoods with later model truck hoods and never seem to have any more problems with them there is even a difference in the sound when closing the hood between a stock CUCV hood and a later model civi truck hood.
