I’d like your opinions on what I should add/upgrade on my truck.

I just finished bobbing it this last weekend. I still need to touch up the paint, make 1 brake line, bleed the brakes, flip the hubs, and pack the front hubs.

I already have purchased 395 MVT’s, and I ordered custom wheels from Long’s.

I bought a replacement engine today (my current engine kicked a rod on the drive home from purchasing it).

So what I have been considering on buying/installing is:

Boost gauge
Pyrometer
Spin on oil filter kit
Spin on fuel filter kit
Aftermarket oil pressure gauge?
Brake fluid reservoir

I’ve read through quite a few threads, but what brand Boost and Pyrometer do you prefer?

What else would you recommend? I don’t want to spend thousands, but I’d rather do some things now while the truck is down.

I personally am a big believer in Isspro Pyrometers, available at any reputable heavy truck dealer . Have sold hundreds and installed dozens with only an occassional issue, usually resulting from an installer crimping or pinching the thermocouple cable ! IMHO.

RealCavDog, that was the brand that I was looking at also.

DieselBob, that gauge is the one that I wanted. I had seen it on here before.

goodguyzy, I may end up adding a muffler, heated leather sounds cool.

Gimpy, send me your drawings so that I can get started on the hydrogen generator.

I forgot to ask this, but what should I do to the engine before installing it? It is supposed to be fairly leak free. I will be changing the oil and filters. Should I bypass the FDC?

Now would be the time to replace the rear main seal and the pilot bushing. Good time to have the flywheel surfaced. I would bypass the FDC.

Would you recommend surfacing the flywheel, but running the old clutch? I had already planned on running the best looking clutch between the replacement engine and my current engine.

I used a Stewart Warner pyro gauge. Its a good size to be read at a glance and is color coded for temp.

I would keep the sets together. flywheel, disk and pressure plate sense they have already "seated" with each other. I would not resurface the flywheel if you are going to reuse a disk and pressure plate. 2cents

I've got Autometer boost and pyro gauges in my truck. They work fine but if I had it to do over again I'd go with the Turbocator just because of the ease of installation with having two gauges in one.

Just about any name brand gauge will be fine. I question some of the cheap foreign gauges sold on e-bay (I really don't want my turbo eating a probe).

I would have to totally agree with this, again just an opinion !

On the subject of color coding, use a vinyl sticker to mimic the red arrow on the tach, that will get folks cocking thier heads and going " why doesn't mine have that option ? " LOL !
