M1008 pintle hitch

I am wondering, how much load you guys are putting on your stock M1008 or M1028 pintle hitches. I am about to go to Haspin (750 miles one way) and I need to determine which trailer to take and what I can put on it. I am also running with my truck camper(1100lbs) on the M1008A1. I did just install an electric brake controller for my civilian trailer(2800lbs empty).

I once towed my D-3 Cat dozer on a 3 axle pintle trailer behind my CUCV. It didn't break off. (21,000 towed weight, 1000 tongue weight) Took it reallly slow . . .

M1009. Equipped to tow M416 Series 1/4 ton trailers with maximum towed load
of 1200 pounds for both cross-country and highway travel. Load on tongue should
not exceed 100 pounds.

FA1008, M1008A1, M1028, M1028A1, M1028A2, and M1028A3, Equipped to tow
M101 Series 3/4 ton trailers with maximum towed load of 3100 Ibs. Load on tongue
should not exceed 300 Ibs.
Guidelines for Towing Aircraft Which Exceed Maximum Towed Load Weight
(3) Gross load will not exceed 10,000 pounds for M1009, 15,000 pounds for M1008,
M1008A1, M1028, M1028A1, M1028A2, and M1028A3.
(4) Tongue load will not exceed 100 pounds for M 1009, and 300 pounds for M1008,
M1008A1, M1028, M1028A1, M1028A2, and M1028A3.

I used a M1009 pintle to tow my M543A2 with it about 15 miles. I used a tow bar so there was very little tongue weight. It did not break

is there any way to get something that bolts up to the factory hitch on a m1009 to convert it to a regular ball hitch? mine has that hitch that clamps like a mouth (i dont know wat its called im new to the cucv world)i want a regular ball hitch but i dont wanna buy a trailer hitch

Thats what mine has and it works great. Mine is all rusted and looks factory. I have towed a 2000lb air compressor with my m1009 and it had no problems with the hitch, just the hills so we had to do about 45.

If you shop dilligently on Ebay you can find that combo hitch at a buy it now price of $26.

Guess they are out of the ones with 2" ball. Keep checking, they might relist. I've bought 3 so far.

Sounds like fun!! Just remember those 308 gears aren't very good at heavy loads. Might want to install a tranny temp guage and a pyro.

Got mine for a little more at tractor supply, but wanted to tow right away.

If I had to do it again, I'd try a little harder to back the big stock pintle swivel nut off while the mount plate was still on the truck. To take that out means a complete unbolt of darn near everything on that rear bumper.

Pintle hook pattern bolt-on receiver tube 2" I.D. # 1804055 "Trailer Parts Superstore" 49.95 shipping 16.00

This might work for you, will bolt on to where that mouth thing is.

I am getting a Draw-Tite class 5 hitch soon with a brake controller and 7 pin plug. I see trailers all year long on a overloaded hitch going down the road. Not me.
