fuel pump electric vs mechanical

Looking for some advise and pro's and cons of electric versus mechanical lift pumps.

I have one that for some reason decided to start leaking fuel. I went to start it the other day and it ran for a bit then died never to restart. I am hoping it was air and not that all the fuel ran out of it.

I just use the truck around the farm as a jump truck. never sees the highway.

I am thinking about just getting a new mechanical pump, it served the army well all those years and i am guessing alot of guys here that have CUCVs still run the mechanical pump.

I know the electric would be nice for priming, but that is not an everyday think.

I just slap in new mechanical pump if needed. The first one lasted 20+ years and there CHEAP!
To install a new electrical pump would take longer and you would have to mod in the wiring and pump.

Keep it stock.

That's what I'd do...keep it stock, less heartburn...and you won't need to worry about an EMP taking it out :-D

My system was shot, filter bad rubber and steel lines where fubared from the tank so..
Mine took an hour ( 2 of us) to run new lines rubber fuel lines to the tank install pump, I ran the wires though the bolt hole where that crapy leakin filter was to the fuse panel.
costs was
$ 71 bucks- at auto zone it can be had cheaper elsewhere
$ 20- for 15 ft of 3/8 hose for supply
$ 17- for 15 ft for 5/16 hose for supply and return to the tank
claps and zip ties and wire 10ga and pump screen filter Ihad on hand
Temporary til new on gets here: filter rack was from 6-71 semi I scrounge 10 bucks filter where a gimpy spec. the finial I used one off the m35 til I get home again
And bite me if you say that dumbazz design of pump is easy lol
