helped on deuces, got a M105 !

One of my friends ( not an SS member yet) Gave me 1 of 3 M105 trailers today! I helped him bleed brakes and swap windows on some M109 - M35( that he traded to another friend).
My trailer was a navy unit , and has some bad rust spots( bad) but most of the frame and body is fine, I also have to wire on an electrical plug. I was just going to plasma cut out, grind and make some new pockets. I wanted to know what any fellow SS members think about the rust (have they built up new bed parts) and well, it was just about free( aside from helping out a little today).

I've seen much worse. A plasma and a welder should make here like new again!

Sadly, rust in those areas is very common. I hate bodywork so generally I just replace the trailer and trade the rusty one off.

With M105s as common as they are now, I don't blame you. Let the rusty one go to the woodchucks that would work it to death hauling firewood. However, 20 years from now, when the supply of fresh M105s is exhausted, there might be more of an effort to repair cancer like this in the surviving ones....

Good luck on the trailer repair, deuceaid. That isn't too bad, cut the cancer out and weld in new metal and it will be good as new.

Definitely, a good welder can clean that up in no time, I have seen my son Adrian restore large areas on his Cj7 and M37 projects with a grinder, some sheet metal and a wire-feed welder.
My welding skills are not that good and the M105 (103) I received from Kenny under similar circumstances was fixed with fiberglass.

Yes that is an easy fix. One thing I would do when putting in the new steel is to leave an opening or some space in the bottom corner for water and junk too drain out.

Thats the first thing that popped into my mind when you mentioned rebuilding the pockets. I see alot of trailers that have the pockets filled with trash that blocks the drainage holes and thats why they rot out.

I was wondering why the pockets ( 2 or 3 of them) were so bad when everything else seemed ok. If I could pass a bb thru the frame or bed, I would let it go. But an 8 ball thru the side pocket doesnt seem too bad. I have the time, and my friend has a full shop that I can use. I am also thinking of making some second alternator mounts Based on info from the SS member in germany) on the cnc plasma table for myself and a friend or two. I might make a few more and see if anyone here would like a kit or something.just a thought.
