I have a M101A2 after preparing it to bump it wont. Lock both brakes leavers back up the tires turn and the bed will not go up, when I pull foward the brakes lock and slide the tires. What am I doing wrong or what else do I need to do?

It is NOT a dump trailer, never was intended to be.

read the tech manual?

it is made for tongue to stand straight up for transport to take up less room. pivots up where most put pins to make it dump, supposed to remove the ones under the trailer to stand tongue up

Elaborate on this for me Please!
The "dump" feature was intended for reduced shipping space not actually using the trailer for a dump unit.

The two cast fittings on the end of the "A" frame are one of the weak points of the trailer, plus the brake lines don't have a rubber line installed at the pivot point which will over time if used as a dump, crack.

Thank You bjsmith! I have the TM and I must have missed this section somewhere. Doesn't matter much to me. So could one possibly ruin or break the trialer if they are using it as a " Dumper?"

What is there to elaborate on? Read the tech manual(front to back) for the M101(any version). It never mentions using the trailer as a dump trailer. It was never made to be a dump trailer.

Even so, people use them to dump. I have to put heat to my two pins just to get them to unbolt the first time. Not sure if they put locktite on them or what, but they were cemented shut. Be careful of the tailgate and lights when you dump. Try it first with nothing on the trailer, and look and see how the lights lay on the ground or the tailgate gets in the way. You can do some damage to your trailer if not careful when dumping. Also, always leave hooked up to your vehicle securely when dumpiing. Don't ever try to dump with it loose. Good luck!

Yes, they can and will break. Someone recently posted a picture of their trailer, broken from dumping. The geometry of the frame pivot used when using them as a dump trailer, is wrong and strains until failure, the frame attachment "pivot point".

Interesting some of the GL trailers coming up for auction have some pictures of the M101 in the tilt position. They are starting to market them as tilt trailers. A number of trailers up for auction have a set of pictures of the same trailer in the tilt position, and they say this is not the actual trailer being sold, but is a representive sample of the M101 trailer in the "tilt position" for reference.

They probably should not be doing that as people will get the wrong idea, not understand the hazards of the damage they can do, and if it is not intended to be a dump, it just doesn't make sense to advertise it that way. None the less, I would not hesitate to use mine as a dump, as, for what they cost, I would just replace it or the parts if it went caput.
This is not a recommendation...
Doghead and the others are on the mark more so than I.

Please look at post# 16 in this thread, then decide if you really want to use your M101 as a dump trailer and tow it on the road where other people drive. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/trailers/24414-m101-dump-bed.html

Replacing it when it breaks, is economical.

Controlling it on the road when the front A frame breaks free from the trailer may be impossible.

If GL is indeed advertising them as a dump trailer, I see a huge group law suit coming soon!

You dont think they are watching this web site do you?rofl

Edit: while we are on the subject of this trailer and the manual, I have read the manual several times (at least the one I have,TM 9-2330-202-14&P) and searched the internet and I can not find a pic or reference to this "tongue folded for shipping". Can someone please make me feel stupid and give me a link to it. (I just looked at my copy and it says this tm supersedes the one from oct '93) does anyone have the earlier TM?

I think that part is in the transportability guidance TM.

Ive looked there also and didn't find it.

aua I know Ive seen it somewhere other than on the data plate.

This is one of those things that drives my wife nuts, I'll spend all day on here looking for it and not getting the yard work done.

Yeah, if you do what he did and way over load it then push it so hard you lift the tires up, when you know the frame is already cracked, you will break it.
