M88 Gas Engine

Looking for the gas engine model number/designation of the M88. As I understand, there were a few made before they switched the diesel engine. We had one in our 8" Howitzer unit (8th Div 3/16 FA) and I am curious if DOD used this powerplant in other tracked vehicles.

Thanks Ron! I read almost everything on the M88, and there were alot of empty spaces in reference to that powerplant. Most articles cited the AVDS-1790-2DR, which is the twin turbo diesel, powering the M88A1.

I found that in "U.S. Military Tracked Vehiciles" by Frew Crismon, has about 3 pages on the m88s starting on page 295

There is an M53 at the museum and IIRC it has the AV-1790-7B Conti.
