anyone know what tap i need for the starter bolt

why dont you take the other non messed up bolt out and use that to find out what you need?

I was going to suggest reading the ORD9 but then I remembered that there isn't one for the CUCV. Be home in an hour, I can measure one.

An advanced search in the CUCV forum for starter bolt, should get you both the part number and the thread diameter and pitch.

The part number for the bolt is, 15544950.

I think you need a die, which is for external threads. A tap is used for internal threads.

My thread pitch gauge agrees, 10x1.5
