alternator exciter wire question???

Im driving back this m1028 dually i bought from gov deals from tn to ill, they butchered the under dash harness bad, which is not that big of a deal i have a complete one at home but im getting no power to the alternator exciter wire can i just tie it into the 12 volt post on the alternator temporary untill i get home?? That way i will have a functional charging system for the time being?????

Your braver than I am if I cant towbar it home I have them shipped I dont have a pleasant disposition when problems arise on the road anymore.

Yeh im getting to old for this bs to!! I called the guy before i bid on it and he said runs great and the tires are good, well i threw the alternator belt 20 miles away, the tires are bald and it doesnt charge due the harness being butchered by a hack. I think thats why they sold it. Most likely it just needed new gen light bulbs and they couldnt figure it out so they started hacking. But for $2400 bucks what can you expect!!!!
No rust though hopefully i make it home right now im in Pigeon Forge going to Dolly Wood for a day!!!!

They did have a beat up unimog i think there going to be selling in the future!!!!!

I'd say yes, but it's normally off during engine cranking...maybe you can install a switch temporarily.

I saw TN but how far do you have to go, and which alternator? These things will go a long way on just two good batteries and no charging.
