Where to find a cheap CUCV for parts?

As you all know CUCVs are built like a brick @#$%house and can be found in running condition for $2000-$4000 all day long. I am planing on building a rock buggy and would like to find a non-runner to steal parts from, namely the axles, 14bolt and Dana 60 respectably and maybe the transmission and some of the accessories off the engine. So I would like to find one that has a blown engine , been stripped for parts(but not the ones I need), or is a crash.
I found that Boyce is selling CUCV axle sets with all sorts of mods but they are going for an arm and a leg. Nothing in SoCal listed on GovLiq currently. Where else should I look?

Seems like everyone is looking for the same item. Myself included.

Since the CUCVs are being released to the general public, all the rock crawler crowd has been hunting for the Dana axles. I have a couple of Jeep projects that could use them.

Don't think you will find cheap ones anymore. Just have to be on the lookout. There have been a few show up at the junk yard. But you have to be there quick as they are scraping the older trucks.

Thats why I want to buy a complete non-op, I figure I can get one cheaper than just buying the axles from someone parting out. Even though GM 14 bolts are easy to score at most pick-a-parts, because we are on the border all the parts get grabed quick. And finding a good Dana 60 high pinion or reverse cut can be a near impossible feat.
my gut tells me that there is a broken down CUCV in someones backyard who has no clue how much the axles are worth that would be happy to let it go for a couple hundred bucks. If not it is still worth a try if it'll save me a couple grand.

I just bought a 1028 out of some ones back yard for $1000 and now I will bring it back to its former glory. I was there about 20 minutes before a guy that was gonna part it out for a rock crawler.

I wonder If after I obtain one a take the parts I want if I could sell all the other stuff? Think I might be able to get $500 bucks or so for body, frame , Tcase, engine, etc..? I'm mainly looking for a m1008 because I know it's got what I want, what's the difference in the models? Any link to a good resource would be great

you better do your research again

AHH, You caught it, Good job[thumbzup]

Whle this site may not be where you find your deal, It can be a WEALTH of information through the search function. CUCV's are the most popular trucks on here and i think everything that could be covered has been. For what your looking for the is no MAJOR diferences in what the cucv's offer.

Those day are long gone my friend. Thanks to computers and the internet everyone, even the 80+year old farmers know that old broke down 1ton that used to have the grain feeder on it is worth over a grand just because of the running gear.

I agree- the uninformed willing to part with a broken down CUCV for a few $100's are few & far between as the internet is a instant source of information.

I'm keeping the faith considering I just found a running M35a2 for 1500 fairly close by just today(rockwells are overkill). Between 29 Palms, Camp Pendleton, China Lake, etc... we have a huge amount of military vehicles out here and people in SoCal (me included) are very impulsive and that works to my advantage. My buddy had a CUCV and I used to make fun of it for being a naturally aspirated diesel before I really understood what they were and he sold it for $1200 just a few years ago. I'll post up if I find that allusive deal of a lifetime.

The M1028s are supposed to have a limited slip unit, whereas the M1008s do not.

But if he's going to buggy it, then he'll probably put a locker in it, anyway.

FWIW, I picked up a wrecked M1028 through GSA, scrapped the hulk, and plan to sell all the usable parts that I don't need.

State auctions also, got a couple for the minimum bid ($50.00 plus fees a whopping total of $225.00) a few years ago, off site, one actually ran, you have to keep your eyes open but then everyone else has their eyes open too.
