Where's the mud?

look it up on youtube there is a lot more mud in the beginning races

I got mine stuck (kinda sorta) for the first time on Sunday. Was doing some mild trail riding with a few medium deep holes 3' deep or so no problems. Then after disengaging transfer case on a long dry trail, we came across a decent sized hole. My buddy's Wrangler nosed in til he was hood level, then backed out. I figured I would try it, being an absented minded old fart, I forgot to re-engage the transfer case....DOH. Anyway, I wound up with my 16 x 20's Michelins completely buried but still turning...AND digging deeper. I had movement forward and backward of about 8', but decided to call it before I dug in too deep. Backed 'er up as far as I could go, hooked up to the Wrangler and we both moved forward together. With momentum and a little tug I cam right out. It was then that I discovered my mistake, I have no doubt that I would have walked right thru that hole IF I was engaged. BTW I started in low range 1st and 2nd gear, but switched to high range to get the wheels spinning to clear the mud from the tires. I feel that as long as you can find the bottom of the mud and finesse the wheel spin they will go. Of course it also depends on the kind of mud.....slick clay mud just might present a challenge. I was in sandy mud.

That may be a challenge for a big heavy truck that has grunt but not speed. Without the deep lugs on the tires and the speed to "float", I think you are gonna sink like a 2.5 ton piece of iron within the first 10 feet of mud. Looks like fun though, good luck.

I can't speak for elsewhere, but the mud we have here in Missouri is awful. It's slick, sticky and thick all at the same time. If the lack of traction doesn't get you, the suction will. And, if you're in bottom land, you'll never find the bottom of the ruts because the frame will be buried first. Been dealing with it at our hunting farm all of my life and I have nightmares about mud. These days, I just take the four-wheeler any time I think there could be problems.

Yeah, that's what I thought when he said "mud bog". There is zero chance of the deuce going through something like that.

I've played in many a mudbog in my deuce. Ive been stuck twice. Once took a ford with a blown 460 to yank me out, the other took a K5 with a 502 to pull me out. Airing the tires down to 15psi will help dramaticly.


This is more then likly how your mudbogging experiance will end. But is for sure a croud pleaser.

It's PMCS- Preventive Maintenance Checks (and) Services. It means checking your vehicle before, during, and after use, ie; the exact opposite of what my wife does with the car.

Those turns are tight, so don't air the fronts down to under 25 and 10 in rears.

You'll find out after you go thru some real mud. Seriously, you should be fine where your going, but if you decide to go thru anything wet, sloppy and as deep as atleast your hubs you'll find that drum brakes do not like mud. It gets trapped inside the drum and will destroy your brake shoes if you dont tear them apart and thoughly clean them, hence the PMCS part.

Not trying something because other people may get mad? Thats a pretty crappy attitude to have. Its like saying the guys in the "mudtrucks" that are stuck, but just keep it floored on the off chance they will get out. It wastes more time then having a dozer yank some one out, and its all about pride.
