i have and 84 M1008. I am pretty sure my glow plugs are not working. i have had to start this truck with ether since i got it about 6 months ago. i have been reading it is really not good to do this, so i want to fix my problem. i am getting ready to purchase new glow plugs, and i plan on bypassing the card under the dash. my wait light has recently quit working. my question is that if i do this, without my wait light working, will my glow plugs work. and all i have to do its connect a momentary switch to the blue wire and the other terminal of the switch needs to be grounded?

I think before you start ordering stuff you should do some trouble shooting as per the TM manual glow plug section. A stop using Ether there alot of threads on here of people destroying there engines. Also i wouldnt go cheap on the glow plugs alot of people use the AC60g and are happy your glow plugs may be good and the problem lays some where else just my 2cents

cucv1833,
if i wire it like you did in you're diagram what will this do to the wait light bulb... it will not illuminate, am i correct?

I ran a 8ga wire from the front batt. pos. to the GP relay (12v) and removing the 24v wire coming off the resister to the relay. then i ran a 14ga. wire from the blue wire on the relay to a push button then push button to ground. when i push the button there is no wait light due to the bypass there is a click from the relay only.

Cont. doing a search other people have differnt opions and methods of the bypass. And in my other post you may be able to fix your current problem and avoid this all together.

The TM 9-2320-289-20 tech manual has a step by step procedure to test the components of the GP system. Why not do that first before changing something?

Any future owner of your truck may not appreicate any "modifications" you have made and not documented.

The Glow Plugs may still be good. I checked mine today amazingly only 2 were good. It doesnt take long. Below is part of the procedure I used and the link to the TM. IIRC it was page 2-65.

Step 3. Disconnect each glow plug lead and check for resistance between glow plug terminal and ground. Resistance should be 1-3 ohms. Check glow plugs for looseness or damage. If any glow plug does not have correct resistance or is damaged, replace, (See paragraph 3-20) Tighten any loose glow plugs.
