The grill and 1942 Dodge pics I posted are both brainchildren and property of mcinfantry.
The grill lives on but, unfortunately, the 1942 Dodge fell victim to an idiot on the road. It was an awesome truck. When it was running I knew it was a cool truck, but now that it is gone I really miss it and appreciate it a whole lot more.

CARC info:

Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC)

• DO NOT use CARC for items like manifolds and mufflers that exceed 400°F. Doing so may produce toxic fumes and/or equipment damage.

Other than the coating issues I think that the grill in the OP is cool.

I have helped make grills from large military surplus engine shipping containers, so I know a little of what I speak. The insides were thoroughly sand blasted and we wiped them with veg oil and seasoned the insides kinda like you might season a cast iron skillet.
We used SS to make coal holders and grill racks. They were bigger than 55 gal drums, but not too much bigger.

The unit was hot for 3 hours and I did not smell anything unusual. The paint did not come off on the inside. Good Point. I always felt that HEAT was an excellent sanitizer. That being said the interior should be pre heated for 3 hours to sanities before use. Makes sense.

Snaps in place as if it was right side up. You unlatch it to let the ash drop out.

No rubber seal (would smell bad) so I used a bolt with a wing nut to hold the lid handle flush to the can.

Thanks for the idea! I've been looking for stuff to "Grill-ify" all afternoon. I'm currently trying to un-solder the top of the gas can that is mounted on by running board. (been empty for years) If it proves too difficult, I will get the sawzall out.

Lots of harmful things have no discernible odor. The fact that the paint did not burn off tells me it is some heavy duty stuff. Heating and cooling cycles might release toxins. I'm just sayin. Be careful what you cook with and what you burn in, especially in an enclosed area.

These things are cool, but not if they make you sick, cause cancer, or poison you.

The CARC issue is something to look into and I am. I have never used my grills, they are a back up to my back up and are really just a storage can that is useful for grilling and open fire. Thanks for the input islandguydon
