m35 fuel in sump

Fuel Density Compensator, part of the injection system on most M35A2s. It sometimes leaks into the "sump." Most are bypassed for this reason without ill effects.

Call me crazy, but I would love to tune into the BBC channel sometime and watch Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May do a proper Top Gear Review of the M35A2.

Pauline, Welcome to SteelSoldiers. I spent about 2 years living in your part of the UK when I was with the USAF at RAF Upper Heyford back in the early 90's.

Do a search site search for "bypass+FDC" and "manifold+heater" and you'll get some insite as to why some guys bypass and remove that stuff.

I would disconnect and plug the supply line to the manifold flame heater. This will easily eliminate one possible source for oil contamination.
A leaky flame heater will put fuel into the intake manifold (which can also be bad), but has no connection with the oil pan...
