Brake cable question

I got a new brake cable to replace the old one which was seized. The old one has a outer rubber cover which is quite cracked so it's not usable. I don't see a separate piece in the parts manual, just the cable is listed. Have any of you replaced your cable and been able to install it without the outer cover? I guess my only other option is to buy some rubber tubing and slit it length wise and put it over the cable. Any thoughts guys?

John, if you decide to cover it, I have some shrink wrap that will work, but its blue and will stick out like a sore thumb.

I replaced my brake cable and the replacement cable came in a new outer sheath. I do not see how the cable alone would work; it needs the rigid outer sheath to brace against when you actuate the parking brake lever.

I'll take a look at the hardware store and see if there's some flexible black water line the right size. I might have to fab up some extra brackets to support it. Anybody seen the outer sheath available separately?

John, you should be fine using the cable I sent you as is (without any other protection).

Well I think at the least I'll add some rubber hose over the cable at the clamps so it doesn't bind or wear. I don't think the clamps are small enough to hold on to that cable.

I replaced mine I had a piece of a conveyer belt to wrap it up where it goes threw the frame and wrapped it around where the plate is for the tool box but a rubber tube would work nice
