They will definitely fit, but whether they are safe or not is another question. The bead and rim are different. Many say it is not safe while others run the 395s without problem.

I have seen a 5 ton with over-sized tires bouncing up a hill and the rears were just as close together. They did rub during heavy flexing, but it didn't seem to be a problem 99.8% of the time. Logic says that the same would be true for the Deuce.

Heavy loads move the tires farther apart from what I understand. (Not sure the whys or hows though, dont quote me)

EDIT: The real concern with having them that close together is you have to keep an eye on your dog bones (Control arms) after any flexing. In stock configuration breaking one usually wont cause the tires to rub (From what I know) but with 395s a broken control arm can DEFINITELY cause rub and heat problems. Again, 99.8% of the time this will have no affect on you.

The Wiki says:

"M35A3
Stock 14.5R 20 (43.5 X 20)

Largest Tire on stock wheels 1100X20 (43 X 20) or 12.50R20 (40 X 20)
Largest tire with out lift 15.5 G20 or 395 85R 20 (47 X 10 X 20)... Requires 10-11 inch "singled" wheels. "

If you knew you were going to have to change your tires after a recovery, and DIDN'T want to mod the suspension, and had the 'standard' CTIS rims, what is the biggest tire you would/could put on?

Also, what is a 10-11 inch 'singled' wheel?

How is it different than the stock wheel, and is it CTIS compatible?

Singled wheels as opposed to duals. It is CTIS compatible, tire has nothing to do with CTIS and you are using stock A3 wheels.

This refers to the width of the rim itself, by 'singled' meaning only one tire versus the 'dual' configuration found on A2 versions.

Who did you find to sell the origional Michelin tires? Michelin states they are a "military only" tire. I had a number of local tire stores look at ordering them and they all got the same reply... "military sales only." I would be quite happy being able to order new Michelin 14.5 XLs and stick with the tires the vehicle is designed to run with. aua

Hi Kids,

Not being an expert or anything, I'd have to say take everything I say with a grain of salt. I only have my experience with the A3 tires to go with. But here you go.

10-11 in wheel is the width of the rim. 395's do fit, but I'm having TONS of fun doing it. The m35A3 wheels are 11" stock. The michelin 14.5 do come up for auction every now and then at about 100-150 per tire. You're probably buying old tires no matter where you source them, but some were warehoused nicely which makes them slightly better. The wheels on the a3 are backspaced differently than the old deuce wheels, which are 8" width, which means you will have different geometry if you go with those rims to mount 395's, but it's being done and it works.

Did I miss anything?

Yep, I missed one. Patriot, OMG yes better top speed. I top out at 52. It piss**es people off. 395's get you 4 or 5 mph better, AND reduces strain on the engine. The TM's state to NOT run the rig at full revs for extended times. Ok, now, is that it?
