Well. I made it! The Deuce could not have run better. Smooth as silk.

First of all, THANK YOU to all of you for your support and good wishes, particularly those who sent me their contact info 'just in case'. The good vibes definitely helped.

Secondly, I was surprised by how well the Deuce rode and how easily it drove. I was expecting a ride like if you balanced a bar stool on top of a creeper and were towed on a rope behind a pickup truck with a storm window held in front of you. It was better than that. LOL, I am kidding of course, but nevertheless it was a very comfortable ride.

The worst of it was getting stuck in a killer traffic jam on Rt 8 in CT. Over an hour to go 2 miles.

The best of it was setting the hand throttle and just leaving it there. I was running 55 and the truck would slow to 50 on the worst grades and do 58 or so on the downhill sections.

I was planning to run 50 the whole way but the truck quickly got loose and was just happy at 55. I have 11.00x20 tires, so the revs were more or less 2250, and that ain't bad.

Oil pressure actually rose and was just over 60 psi. Temp rock steady at 180. Good voltage and air pressure, too.

I really loved the drive. Now I get to do the return trip on Saturday.

I wanted to check my highway fuel mileage but the stop-and-go traffic kind of messed that up. I topped off in MA and on the downstroke will top it off again.

When I was on I91 northbound in lower MA around 6 pm, a semi passed going the other way with a low-boy. On top was an A3, looked like dark green and black camo. Was that someone on this forum?

Oh yes, one other PITA. Got caught in the rain at one point - had to close the windshields - and happily the wiper worked. But, after the rain, the wiper would not stay parked. It kept traveling straight up and down. Annoying, but if that was the worst of it, I'll take it.

Here are a few pix as promised. I am on an internet connection that is slower than a Deuce in compound low, so these are just to start things off.

I like the blurry "action shot" of the gauges!

Glad you made it!

Rick
LOL and I tried taking that shot several times. I wonder what shakes more, the truck or me.

Tell you one thing, the ride was deafening. Even with supposedly soundproof earmuffs, it was still pretty loud. For the next rip I will add ear plugs.

Looks like I got right at 10 mpg on straight freeway running at 55 mph with hills. Should I be happy or sad?

It's time for the reverse trip. South on I-91 thru from up around White River Junction to I-84 and then south on 8.

This weekend I am going to replace the brake return spring and add air tool oil to the front and rear of the air pack. (I had another thread going about some concerns I had about the brakes.) The brakes were grabbing when cold - I spoke to the PO and he said that the truck has always done that when the brakes are cold, and especially when it was damp. Well, that is exactly the circumstance I had, but I am going to perform the above service anyway.

I plan on keeping the speed down to 50 instead of 55, as on the trip up. My Deuce has 11.00x20 tires so the revs are a bit lower. On the trip up I got 10 mpg, the PO claims he used to get up to 14, but ran at 50: we'll see.

Have you corrected the odometer for the different tires. Would make a difference in calculating the MPG.
Good point; I don't know if it has been done. Someone added 11.00 x 20 singles before I got it. I also don't know if the PO added a fudge factor when he calculated his 14 mpg (but I doubt it).

The most accurate at this point would be to calculate my actual speed (I am not a GPS kind of person; I believe in paper maps) form rpm, gear ratios, and loaded tire diameter.

Thanks for giving me homework! ;) ;) ;)
