I'd seen this article a very long time ago and had forgotten about it - thanks for reminding me how much fun a '135 is to drive - My trans never gave me any problems after I swithced it to 10/30 hydraulic oil instead of straight weight non-detergent motor oil. A friend of mine drove them in Vietnam - he told me that they always hauled the troops in the GMCs, and hauled the howitzer and ammunition in a Reo since the Reo's were hard riding while the GMCs were a lot easier on the troops in back.

This article was also in Military Vehicles magazine. I have a pretty complete collection of them upstairs. This is a pretty good example of his (Steve Turchet) earlier writing where it was fun to read (later articles are much more technical "how to" stuff) I can remember reading this one and also wanting an M135:driver:.

My first Army Truck ride was in an M211 in 1974. They are still my favorite 2-1/2 ton trucks and I would trade my M35A2 for one in a heartbeat.

I saved the page to my computer, so if the link ever goes KAPUT like they often do, it will still be available for readers here.

I wonder what would have happen if the M211 serries of trucks had developed instead of the M34 serries and would have gone through the A1,A2, A3 changes that the other duce did? I wonder what the modern truck would have been like.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I've owned both and I enjoyed driving the M211 much more than the M35A2....except for the road speed....And that is the biggest reason I got rid of the M211 and got the M35A2 was to have some highway speed.

So the M35A2 is that much faster then the G749 series trucks? Did not know that.
