Wrecker to drag a MK17 onto a semi step trailer?

I've got someone interested in my MK17. Just trying to figure out the logistics of things. They have a shipper with a step trailer with ramps. Would it be possible for me to take my deuce and drag the MK17 down to the trailer, nudge it into place. Then bring my wrecker beside the trailer 90* it to the side and extend the boom as needed to give a center pull on the MK17 and roll it up onto the bed. I've read about the booms bending? I understand this isn't proper use of the wrecker. But I'm just trying to help out, but I don't want to do anything that might injure someone or my wrecker. I also thought about using my rear winch and a snatch block and use it at an angle maybe?

Does it have the towbar? I would not try to swing it into place with the boom. I would use the deuce with a length of cable abd a block to suck it onto the trailer backwards and use the crane to lift the front end. Clear as mud?

Just play out your winch cable below the MK 17 and run thru a snatch block that's centered on a chain to both sides of the step deck trailer bed.
Once the MK17 is on the deck you can push the trailer into position.

Might be one of those deal where contacting a local wrecker service would be best. Shouldn't be that much and they have everythng needed plus insurance.

Data I found online says the MK17 trailer portion should weigh in at 11,700 lbs.

I don't see why you should not be able to lift one end, back the trailer under it, then lift the other end up and on.

Yea you go a tuff load out. Just one thought would be if you could find someone close with a 816 disconnect trailer right in front of MK17. Park the 816 with boom / bumper in line like you were going to hook up to the step deck. Then extened boom and pull the MK up. You should have enough hight that the landing legs should not hit as you real it in and adjust hight of boom just to keep the landing legs high enough to clear. You dont want to ever put a side load the boom but u know that.

Why couldn't the same be done with my M543A2? I thought the wrecker portion was the same as a 816?

Be shure to bring tools to cage brakes, chocks to hold MK if need to stop the pull and use a chain to make up some of the rigging so your not dragging the weight of the block so far. Also I would hook a chain up on both sides of frame rails on the MK like a bridle and you will be able to control left to right correction a little better.

why not suspend the "tongue" end with your wrecker boom and back up the trailer? that's how a commercial wrecker would do it.

This is all at my house, brakes are already caged. I think dropping the trailer, setting up my wrecker at the front of the trailer with the cable payed out of the boom as much as possible then a linear pull onto the trailer. With a chain linked to the front two corners to even up the pull.

I don't want to get into suspending the trailer and backing/pulling it up onto the trailer. I could see the boom folding up if I got into that.

Ok, on the front of your MK17 should be 2 shackles.

Hook a tow bar here. Doesn't have to be perfect, some slack is ok we are going real slow here.

Now back your wrecker up to it and hook the towbar to your pintle hook.

Now you can back up and push the MK-17 with the tow bar. To let it back up, hook the boom up to another strong point and lift. This way you are only lifting with the boom, and you are pushing with the tow bar. You will be lifting well under rated capacity, and not stressing it by backing.

Have the truck driver drop the trailer right in line so it is a straight push.

If all the hydro hoses, seals etc., are good and you ain't afraid sumpin is gonna pop...pick that rascal up and let the trucker back under it.

Don't try a side lift though.:whistle:

Larry, I'm curious, why no side lift? I know all I have is my puny little M108 but with only 16' of stick, I find myself doing most of my heavy lifting from the side. Is the side lift caviat more directed at side lifts without outriggers? I just don't have the reach to do some of the stuff I'd like from the back. I use outriggers more than most, probably because the truck is so small.
