At the same time as the DB error, the contact function (PM) dropped out in user profiles. Not sure if it was related or incidental, but I was unable to PM an individual here, so I tried looking at others, and the same thing. "Contact info" dropped out. Yes, I was logged in.

The error message I was first given simply means we've hit a bottle neck. If it happens again, I'm going to see about tweaking the config.php to turn persistent connections off.

Most users ever was at 902 at one time.
We didn't get close to that yesterday.
Gotta be a glitch in there somewhere, but doubtful it is from persistant connections, which are often idle anyway. Probalby need some diagnotic tools to monitor in real time to find the error that kicked it off. A change/reduction in hardware or if running backup or some other heavy duty background tasking could also be part of the formula for showing up "to many users". Best wishes in the hunt.

Will the logs tell you anything? It looks like the SHTF at 22:30.

If not, can the logging be adjusted to produce more relevant data?

The turd cleared at 00:22.

Can't look at it solely based on user connections. Each "thing" someone has access to calls for a connection to the database. I've added a lot of "new stuff" to the server. So even though user count might be low, the add ons I've installed might have increased our persistent connections to the database while our user count has remained unchanged.
