Yes. It is as far forward as possible. The tires are hitting the front of the wheel wells lol

So far these 40” Patagonia tires are great! The method rims and Patagonia tires balance very well! I feel comfortable going 80mph. But since they are a true to size 40” tire, even after doing some cutting on the wheel wells, they still rub with light flexing on light trails. This next summer I...

Yes sir! I am saving up for axle gears currently. Those bigger 40” tires really changed things gearing wise By making the 6.5 feel like it does not have enough power. I think some 5.13 or 5.38 gears will fix that.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

My “gutless” does quite well! It keeps up with modern day traffic. Even has the power to pass other vehicles and gets better fuel economy than any big block of its time.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

It goes 70mph at only 1900 rpm with 4.56 and true 40” tires. I have not driven it much with the 40’s. I am saving up for 5.38 gears before having fun. The 700r4 does great with the 37” tires and 4.56 gears. Perfect combo I think.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

Yep! The axle is as far forward as it will go before the steering linkage hits. Same with the rear! She is stretched at 112” wheelbase. Those 40” Patagonia tires are just HUGE! Much bigger then then most 40” tires.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

She has about 5 to 5 1/2” of lift. Not really sure because I have changed things on it many times over the years. Yes, I will need to do some front wheel well cutting as these true 40” tires do rub both sides of the wheel well when articulated.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

Oh nice! Yes please! :-D Yeah I think the 5.38 would be great because I do plan on going from 40’s to 42’s down the road. Plus that lower first gearwith the 700r4 helps too.

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

I recently upgraded to 40” tires. With the 6.5 TD, 4.56 gears, np208 and 700r4 I am doing 70mph at 1900 rpm. It seems sluggish or gutless. The bigger tires seems like there is not enough gears to get up to speed unless I over Rev it. I was thinking 5.38’s would be a good choice since these...

Also added a 3rd 6 degree shim on the driver side Dana 60 top of the spring to straighten out the spring plate to reduce stress on the bolts and U-Bolts. Here you can see the old bolts are bent and cracking pre 3rd shim. I’ll get those bolts replaced soon.

Just added the Diy4x.com anti wrap bar/axle truss set up. Here’s some pics. I hope it helps with the spring wrap. Sooo darn tired of the hopping when hill climbing,
