Since you are idling your truck anyway what about running a coolant line in/out from the engine and just powering a small fan to blow thru a heater core?
Steady low/med heat, would use 24v (no inv), and low drain for batts...Plus you don't have to listen to (or pay for) high idle all night...
I know this is an older thread but did you find the problem? What was the fix?
So often these threads list the problem that matches other members having the same problem
but the OP never comes back and gives the update that would have helped future members doing searches for help...

Yep...an old saying to remember operating switches in right order was:
UP-UP
DOWN-DOWN
This meant that to start truck, turn on upper switch first then lower
To stop truck, turn off lower switch first then upper
worked well when new GI's had to recite before switch movement...
Ditto on the salt fear and it's not just up North...we got 10 inches of snow and the temp hovered around 5 degrees... I took the truck out driving to see if anyone needed help and the next day my truck looked like a frosted mini wheat with the salt spray on it...they are using that salt liquid...
See post #24...He asked about getting the truck on the trailer and to the storage facility...that was what this recommendation was for...when he gets to AK he can do the Alt mod and load up all 4 batteries...
Just take 2 good batteries with you, take out the 4 old batteries, hook up the two good batteries and drive away. As long as the alt sees the correct voltage that the two good batts will provide, it won't be working overtime to charge 4 dead batteries...don't take the chance on the condition of...
