    M101-A2 Tailgate Mods

You are right that the strap hinges are the weakest link. They are made from thick enough metal though. The current plan is to weld closed the bolt hole in the straps, then run a bead across the top where the strap folds back on itself. That should provide some improvement . I was already only...

    M101-A2 Tailgate Mods

I use my M101 as a dump trailer, and wanted to more easily move the tailgate out of the way before dumping a load of dirt. I considered cutting the tailgate in half, to make two swing-away halves like a traditional dump trailer. But I also wanted maintain the integrity and function of the...

    Help decoding trailer ID code

Mine doesn't have anything like the filler neck shown, or holes to attach a tank that close to the axle. May just have to chalk it up to being a generic cargo trailer. Here are some pics of the inside of the bed. Something was bolted down for at least one repaint of the trailer.

    Help decoding trailer ID code

It doesn't have a splash shield now. You are right abou tthe large hole being on the passenger side. I'll have to look tomorrow to see about a vent hole. There are four bolt holes closer to the from of the trailer that may have held a belly tank. The trailer does have metal bows, I had read...

    Help decoding trailer ID code

Can any of you help me decipher what E2ITL means? I know that the other side indicates 634th Battalion Support Brigade. The clues I have are these. There are two jerry can holders between the wheel wells and the tailgate. There are four holes (5/8) drilled into the floor that look like they...

    New M101a2 dump trailer

Here are the pictures of what I am thinking about. I'll use a ball end like this. My bracket will look more like this with metal above the ball end.

    New M101a2 dump trailer

The chart is just something I found on SS that looked useful. Like Quickfarms, I replaced the lower tailgate pins with hitch pins so that I can remove the tailgate. If the load doesn't completely dump, I'm prepared to do a little raking or shoveling. This will be a vast improvement over...

    New M101a2 dump trailer

With a little research I found this graphic on the forum. If I were to include a limiting strap, I would be aiming at 50 degrees for my bed angle. I have read countless times that the original intent was not to dump with this trailer. But, it will do it. I am an able enough fabricator that I...

    New M101a2 dump trailer

Thanks Robb, that is a good idea.

    New M101a2 dump trailer

I've been reading threads on here for a while. Ive seen the pictures in the thread you mentioned. I don't plan to tip the bed vertical. I really just want it to be easier to unload the dirt than it is out of the back of my pickup. This forum really has been amazing. I think I've read just...

    New M101a2 dump trailer

I intend to be gentle in tipping the trailer. I know that the different angles with the tongue and spring hangers cause significant tension. If or when they break, I will make a more substantial pivot point. The lights are working. I ground away the chipping paint and painted the light hangers...
