    Wrecker count

rarest wreacker I think I know where the rarest of rarest wreckers is located. My Father has a 1935 West Coast International truck rigged with a 90,000 lb winch that was used by the USN during WWII to pull large ships (like aircraft carriers) in to dry dock in California. When the war was over...

Scrap it or keep it? 1953 m135

NORM (naturally occuring radioactive material) is routinely found in some oil fields. There was a time they thought it was a good idea to inject radioactive material down oil wells (salt water disposal) so that the movement of oil could be tracked by seeing where the radioactive turned up...

    M923 starter would not disengage.

Update Well I took it apart and found no evidence of “wielding” I have started it 20-30 times since and have had no more problems. My next step is to put the disconnect switch in. Any other ideas what may have happened?

    M923 starter would not disengage.

why put it on the ground side and not the positive side? My concern would be that if the truck had a short you could not stop the problem with the kill switch on the ground side. can you explain.

Trying to find the right TM to trouble shoot an electrical problem on a 5 ton

Ok so I started to take it all apart to try and find the problem. What I finally found was the battery cable to the #1 one battery was broken. (this is the one from the alternator to battery) Apparently it had been flexed too much in the past. I replaced that and so far I have had no problems...

    M923 starter would not disengage.

I loaned my M923 the local VFW yesterday for a MV show and tell. When it got time to go home I went to start the truck. The starter engaged and would not disengage. I pulled the engine kill which killed the engine but the starter continued to run with both the battery and starter switches in the...

Trying to find the right TM to trouble shoot an electrical problem on a 5 ton

A fellow SS Member has suggested by PM that the problem might be the 12v tap. Is it common for them to cause problems? And when they do turn evil what kind of problems does a bad 12v tap cause? (other than the obvious just not working)

Trying to find the right TM to trouble shoot an electrical problem on a 5 ton

Can you help point me to the correct TM so I can trouble shoot an electrical problem on my M923. I have searched the treads and found a few comments about the electrical control box on the left side near the steering column, but have no idea how to trouble shoot. What’s wrong you ask…. I had...

If you’re up for an adventure pack up 500 lbs of tools (generator, air compressor, flood lights, traffic cones, battery charger X2, and almost every tool you have) and drive her to your house. I drove mine from Lincoln Nebraska to Houston Texas (793 miles one way). Got lucky did not need a...

    Truck mounted shelter grounding questions

I worked at this place where we had to park next to a lot that had a basketball goal in it. The local teenagers would play "street ball" they were always sitting on our cars and sitting in the back of our pickups so I got the bright idea to hook up a 12 volt electric fence charger. I drove a...
