Resistor bypass and belt squeal **FIXED**

Unless you know the belts are new and correct, if tightening them didn't help, replace with known good and correct belts. Check for possible oil/fluid leaks also. Doesn't take much to make a belt slip.

    High shifting point

Normal amount for a filter replacement is 4~5 quarts. Total capacity is around 12~14 IIRC. A lot stays in the converter during a filter change. Might verify that the dipstick is proper for a TH400 transmission.

Why are my starter bolts coming loose??

My gear reduction starter didn't need any shims. Normal 'sample size of one' warnings. Before installing the starter, I sprayed the starter gear with cheap white paint. After installing, doing the paper clip test, and a test start, checked the gear. Had bare metal where you would expect and...

    Parasitic battery draw

Swap the batteries so #1 is now #2 and #2 becomes #1. If the problem follows the battery, then the battery is bad. If the problem stays in the #1 spot, then its a wiring/device fault. 2nd what Skinny said about sitting. My M1008 can sit for a couple months and still start fine.

RAILROAD CROSSING SAFETY - Sheriff Officer Hit - could have been any of us.

The Heartland Flyer which runs from OKC to Fort Worth hit a car hauler stuck on the tracks in October. Someone managed to capture the collision on video. No one was killed but some of the passengers were injured.

    1984 D30 M1008 Project

Make sure the starter has the brace on the end away from the flex plate. If that is missing, can lead to broken starter nose and or starter bolts. Fresh fuel in the tank? Wait light working? Check all the rubber hoses and lines. Especially the one between the tank and frame line and...

    Th400 going bad?

To answer the original question: low fluid, loose filter, IIRC - the filter has a tube with o-ring, a bad o ring can cause poor fluid pickup, plugged filter. I agree with cucvrus. If you have the motor out, take the trans to a shop for inspection and at the least, seal and filter...

How much difference does new shocks make?

Shocks smooth a ride. They usually don't make it softer or harder. How much weight is in the trailer? A light load will ride rougher. These trailers are designed to haul 1500lbs over unimproved terrain. They aren't going to be a soft ride running down the smooth highway. What pressure is...

    M101a2 wheel bearings question

The trailer came off the Norman OK guard base via a GL auction years ago. When I pulled the hubs to inspect I found fresh grease on both sides. One side had bad races. The other had new races and a bearing with a bunch of the cage bars bent out enough that they were slightly rubbing on the...

    M101a2 wheel bearings question

A bit harder to check but might check the brake drums. Possible the warm side is dragging just a bit and warming the hub. How to properly tighten bearings seems to be a mostly lost art. One side on my 101A1 had been tightened to the point of starting to collapse the bearing cage.

    Tire pressure

From the TM on page 1-15: Payload - Cross country 1500 lb, Highway 2250 lb. To 98G's list add: Age and type of tires? If you have 50+ year old NDT tires, any load might be too much. Reasonably modern tires will have a max load @ pressure rating. If everything on 98G's list + tire...

Is it a transmission, transfercase, ujoint or rear diff problem?

Check the brake shoes and pads. They often come with a metal finger designed to start making a squeaking/scratching noise when near EOL. A non finger equipped shoe could be starting to grind on the drum. The Ping during shifting could simply be wear in the rear end letting things start to...

New Potential Owners - Generator Model Numbers ARE Important!

Adding that the 3kw MEP832A 400Hz unit breaks the 'middle number' pattern as it is the last number that changes. MEP831A being the 60Hz version.

M1008 cracked head gaskets, runs fine, fix? Or engine swap?

No one was born knowing how to fix these things. Download the TMs and start reading. Also, a M1008 is basically a 84 Chevy K30 with a few modifications for military service, the most notable is the 24V starting system. If you need parts, that is the vehicle you ask about - an 84 K30 with a...

    My first CUCV

Also possible the bright/dim headlight switch died. While the turn lever activates that switch, the switch is located close to the floor board on the column and has a three connector plug. The nice thing about the CUCV family is GM made millions of the square body trucks and there is a...
