Also just to be safe, I wrap a chain around the tire and through the center of the rim at 0,90,180, and 270 degrees for larger tires. Also make sure the inside of the tires are clean and not full of combustible goo of some sort that can explode like 91W350's post of the tire guys explosion.
I have used a way to get the tires to seat the bead when ether is not available but an oxygen acetylene torch is handy. First start up your torch and get a neutral flame. Pop off the flame by pushing the head into a piece of wood. Then put the torch head inside the tire for a few seconds to fill...
I really really don't like the dogbones on the 2 1/2 tons and the 5 tons. If the rubber fails and the dogbone pulls free it can cause catastrophic failure with the separated driveline swinging around and taking out the brake lines. This has happened twice to me and once caused me a wreak when...
Thanks everyone for the input. The idea of swapping the dump over is because the trucks drivetrain is pretty beat up. Jack overloaded it many times and the ram lifting system was replaced when he overloaded it once and sheared the dump off once. I know because I had to re-weld the bed...
Has anyone put the dump components from a M51 Dump truck onto a M818 Tractor truck?
I have Jack Tomlin's old beat up M51 and wish to put the dump components on a new M818. It looks like the rear frame length is the same so It should be straightforward to remove the 5th wheel components and put...
My surplus yard is 7 miles off I-80 by Grantsville utah, just 40 minutes outside Salt lake city on the way to Wendover NV. If you have problems in the area let me know and I will help any way I can.
Well, it has been a while. Last 2 years were tough with my wife's cancer and trying to finish our house. My wife is now doing great and about 85% done with the house. With huge strain on finances I have partially restarted the yard to prepare and sell some of the trucks and with some help from...

Thanks for the info, mine is a M342. your pic of the M59 is cool... I like how short it is. I looked 9 years to find mine at a local GSA yard... I paid $4500 for it, the deuce trucks are the only big trucks that can make it up my mountain road. I have a few 5 ton dumps at the bottom but they are...
1) Check timing
2) Carburetor rebuild not cleaned properly -
I always had problems rebuilding the old carbs on these 318's and 360's. You can use solvent to clean them
but that never fixed the metal oxide build up on the internal pathways from years of oxidation due to moisture...
Could someone tell me the stock differences in the M59 and the M342? From the limited, low-res pictures I have found on the web they basically look the same. I have one that I picked up from GSA but at the moment I am not sure which one it is, but I do know that it has the multifuel turbo in it...
