Which is understandable. The question them becomes, if there's no problem separating out the Carter P-10 trucks and selling the chassis/cab, then why not separate out the trailer section from the tractor section on Goats, selling the trailers and scrapping the tractor?
Why is it that DRMS/GL don't follow their own Demil regulations? I posted a bit of this on the Gamma Goat forum, but wanted to expand here on it. The areas I've found discrepencies has been with the M561/792 Goats, as well as the GMC P-10 Rescue trucks built for the USAF.
On the Goats...
Here's the interesting thing though. According to the DRMS manual, which discusses special processing of certain items and Demil requirements, such as that for M151 series jeeps; the manual specifically references M561 and 792 vehicles too. Basically, the trailer portion and a few other portions...
Know I'm resurrecting an old post, but oh well.
Was just at the Oklahoma yard today and counted 103 Goats there stacked and lining the perimeter. There were about 75 more that were there that were taken away to be scrapped.
Guy there confirmed that they couldn't be sold due to the demil...
Blasphemy:!:
We here on the USAF side of Cairns are still flying them too, both the straight UH as well as the upgraded TH. Surely you see us on the A and D ramp parking?
Still flying the UH-1H, and loving it!
Too complex? What kind of candyass transmission shops did you go to? Its a run of the mill TH400 for pete's sake! Any local AAmco / Cottmans/ etc should be able to work on it. It's not rocket science.
Looking at your location remionds me of that thread in, I believe, the Conversations section of SS where someone was asking why GL surpluses out in HI or Puerto Rico...and who buys from there?
Guess this thread answers that question!
On a serious note, I did note that HI tends to have some...
Re: RE: Columbus Ohio GL
An M578 light armored recovery vehicle.
A number of them are out here being prepped then towed out to the bombing range as targets.
Yeah, back in the day, or P-10s were extremely loaded down with crap. Being first out, you know as well as I do that the rescue trucks were usually the most beat up truck at the station. Even the P-28 heavy rescues, which aren't that old, are getting beat to crap now. We'll see how the P-30s...
The Chevy P-10s were the third version of P-10, after the older Dodge crew cab P-10s. The V3 P-10s came in two lots of builds by two different manufacturers. From the '84-'85 timeframe, the first buy was manufactured by Carter Chevrolet. These P-10s can be IDd by "Warn style" winch bumper...
Going with your logic here,
1. Was the CUCV originally a MP vehicle? Or were the markings just added on to a run-of-the-mill CUCV to make it an MP CUCV (which makes no difference, just running with your explanation here).
2. GLs requirements, or lack thereof, unfortunately don't trump...
