How do you move your generator(s)?

Where I work we have an 803 sitting on 4x4 timbers inside, which allows enough clearance for a narrower style pallet Jack to fit under it from either end. So we can jack it up off the timbers to move it around and either set it back on the timbers or just lower the pallet Jack and run it on...

    Choosing a Generator

I have a gl11000 but would not want to pay new prices for one. It was quite a bit cheaper at auction than the MEPs lately, but is more of a standby rated I guess - not just 3600rpm but also a brushed genhead albeit fairly clean power.

    Availability of TQG's

Yeah some of those prices aren’t bad, but one of the 1040s went for $11,000. And they aren’t that great, one had a fault at 270hours up for auction. I bought a commercial 10kw 3600rpm water cooled diesel for about $2500 recently but rolled the dice on limited info. I keep looking at the 803s...

    Genset auctions?

Oh yes, definitely agree with you. Part of the lower cost was the additional risk. Being able to limit myself to sets I could tell were reset helped a little, plus the demand getting spread out across so many units all ending at the same time.

    Genset auctions?

When I saw govliquidation lost the contract and they had that last 100+ lot of generators go up, I thought that was probably my last chance to get one “cheap” due to their poor description and photos compared to govplanet - and I was right, got a perfect runnng 803 with fairly low hours for...

Got my 2 MEP-831a's today - got one started - smoked a lot, now won't start

My battery was at 13 volts when I got it, and after a few days on a trickle charger it is holding 25 volts and seems to work good.

    If this generator could talk

I've done two of those, both I found damaged by previous unsuccessful removal attempt, and I had to take the side panel off both times to finally get it off!

    Opinions on MEP-831A

Hope you get it sorted out ok - I just drove the 4 hours from southern Indiana to their warehouse and got them myself. Sounds like yours will be just like mine. As a summary of what I found, I was able to use a 24v charger to get the batteries to hold a charge. Low fuel switch was sticking on...

    Opinions on MEP-831A

I rolled the dice with the last GL auction and now have two working mep-831s and one working mep-803. Never owned a generator before, so really jumped in with both feet. They all took some minor work but no big deal. I don’t need any of them but they are neat! Probably sell one of the 831s...
