Todd - I'm admittedly still in shock!!!!! So sorry about your misfortune.... But it sounds like your not gonna be sidetracked from your mission. That's inspirational! Had a tough year also, (nothing like yours), had to move my entire shop and now recovering from 2 minor strokes 10/5 and 11/11...

Changing a 60 amp to a NIEHOFF 100 Amp Dual Voltage Generator

I'm interested in changing it because: 1) If the 60 Presotlite fails, I have access to 100 amp Niehoff Generators (12423625) Dual voltage 2) I'm not necessarily changing it - I'm curious if it's been done and whether the 100 amp dual will retrofit easily (and how) as a back up option and to...

Changing a 60 amp to a NIEHOFF 100 Amp Dual Voltage Generator

Has anyone installed a 100 Amp Niehoff Gen as replacement for a 60 AMP? I have a 1991 M998 Hmmwv with 6.2L engine and 60 AMP Generator. I also have a good NIEHOFF 100 AMP Dual Voltage Generator that I was thinking of installing. Found parts / installation figures in TM 24P, but it refers to the...

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

Wow - thanks to all of you for the feedback and input. Learned A LOT during this repair. Soon after my last post, I managed to find the TM (thanks to SS) and found the correct removal AND re-install procedure for the damper. Reading that along with seeing the condition of the key (and keyway)...

    Project M37a4

Looks GREAT - keep the photos coming! Can't wait to see how it turns out. The tranny you sold me is in the Air Force M37 and I'm working on the engine re-build. My Air Force M37 - Rebuilt Engine and New Trans This engine being re-built for the M43 Ambulance (seen in background of first photo)

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

Below are some photos I took yesterday. QUESTION - while going through the TM's regarding removal and replacement of the damper and seal(s), it mentions TWO front seals - an 'inner' and 'outer' seal. When searching for front seals on line, I only find one - and none of the vendors mention that...

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

VERY interesting. So... If it's old / dry rotted or hardened, the vibration isn't absorbed which could cause the balancer itself to fail (crack)? Can the rubber be inspected?

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

The first one was installed by a good friend (very knowledgeable regarding deuces - he has two). HOWEVER, while installing the first replacement, he tapped it with a hammer and broke the edge of the pulley. He replaced that one and installed it using a tool like a reverse puller. I don't know...

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

Ok- good questions and thoughts - I agree about the fact that two in four years would not seem to be from service. I only drive the truck in the summer months for shows, parades and events. I do drive it a lot, but not daily. I would say about 700 to 1000 miles a year (that would be high). I am...

M35A2 Continental Multi Fuel - Harmonic Balancer cracked - why?

Front seal on my 1971 M35A2 began leaking for the second time in 4 years. In both cases, we found the hub of the harmonic balancer cracked along the key way slot. This part of the hub rides inside the front seal. I'm trying to understand what conditions could lead to the this type of failure...

    Steering wheel space: poll

I shortened the steering column 2-1/2" without removing the steering box - we did it inside the cab - took about 2 hours. WHAT a difference! It's a great solution and even though my fatness is much less, it's still nice to have the extra room. We did this about 3 years ago - with no issues.

    M43 blowers

They're not reversible side to side - there is a "left" and "right" squirrel cage. You cannot change rotation on the motors either. They're meant to blow out the side of the vehicle - cooling off the rear compartment by extracting warm air from the ceiling. It works quite well actually. Look at...

Todd - WOW - more great progress - Regardless of others opinions (although understood and respected), I think white is a good call. I take mine to a lot of shows and events, and people who see it appreciate the fact that they can actually SEE all of the interior details (straps, surgeon...

Nice progress - hate to see you go through the trouble of removing the rear compartment wall panels. I only removed the ceiling panels in the cab, and the forward ceiling panel in the rear compartment. Most of the damage I found (like yours) was related to the roof seam between the cab and rear...
