He is correct, i am an automotive electrician by trade. If you are using the two wires that were on the back of the starter button, they should go to the batt and crank terminals of your switch. It doesnt even matter which way you hook it up for your purpose.

The stock 4 hole switch is just 2 battery hot 24v and 2 to the starter solenoid. With a volt meter, or a light, determine which are 24v connect those 2 together and put in one hole of the new switch. Tie the other 2 together and put in the second hole of the new switch. I put a keyed switch in...

Chev Papa, I drove a 1977 M35A2 on widened stock rims with 395's. I brought a quad and a home made mini-sand rail type thing, that kept breaking LOL,but MAN was it fun when it was running!!! Only the old reliable deuce could stand up to Haspin Acres, still the best thing Ive ever bought:-D
