MEP-003A with PLC controlled auto start

Hi Jim, I just made some space in my inbox and sent you a PM

I have a sale pending on it...new owner is planning on picking it up this weekend.

    002 voltage issue

Just a thought; I found a bad voltage selector switch on a set that wandered into my shop. One of the contacts was bad/high resistance so whenever a big load was placed on it voltage would droop. A bad contact in the main breaker would cause the same problem. You could fully load your set...

002A (What Mine Will And Will Not Do)

I couldn't get my -002a to start my 7.5HP compressor (it does have an unloader). I attempted it with 2 different motors. Both were capacitor start-capacitor run 1800 RPM single phase motors. I used that compressor as an example in my "paralleling two -002a generators" video. I have had a...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Sorry but I don't have access to an -006a right now; I have done a couple of these in the past, and even shot some video of my last one intending to do a "how to" on the 006. But, the video didn't turn out and I haven't had another one find its way into my shop since then. The last one that I...

I hate copper thieves, especially when they have wire cutters and access to an -004a

Thanks to flydude92 I have almost everything replaced; but he didn't have the engine harness. It has a large cannon connector on one end and the other end goes to all of the stuff on the engine (alternator, speed switch, injection pump, oil pressure, etc.) If anybody has a parts set sitting...

PM sent! This will save me some serious time piecing the harness back together...thanks.

I hate copper thieves, especially when they have wire cutters and access to an -004a

That's why I estimate $10 :) They got the copper going from the load terminals to the 3 phase panel and the battery cables. They cut a lot of the harness but left it when they saw it wasn't solid copper. Frustrating.

I hate copper thieves, especially when they have wire cutters and access to an -004a

I sold this -004a to a guy in Portland several years ago; he has been using it for temporary jobsite power for his concrete construction business. It worked great for him...right up until a few months ago. Some thieves broke into his storage yard and went to town with the -004a. They stole...

    Repurposing Mep002A/ Mep003A Engines

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Well, I'm considering sending this truck off to a new owner. I have driven this A2 about 3000 miles each year that I owned it, until last year when it only saw about 500 miles. This year is shaping up to be another 500 mile year. I just don't have the time to enjoy it like I used to. In...

All the stuff I did to my deuce, right here

Got to use the deuce for some "real" work last week; the city of Cannon Beach tasked me with doing some steel handrails, posts, and some other small jobs right on the beach. One of those jobs required some concrete for some galvanized steel bollards. A couple of the locations were too far away...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

The conversion is similar but not exactly the same. With the -006a you can just do the 12 lead re-wire without moving control wires, but there are a few funny meter readings if you do it that way. I have converted a couple of -006's but didn't write down the wire movements. I plan to make...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

Looks like you have some healthy engines on those 004's...both the single phase and 3 phase tests you ran showed some nice power numbers. With regards to the breaker; it is actually just a contactor and not a conventional thermal circuit breaker. It is designed to trip at 130% of rated load at...

re-wiring my MEP-004a for different voltages, including single phase

I have had at least 30 emails, PM's, and youtube messages from people asking how to convert the 804/5/6 to split phase. I've never had the chance to work on one! Kinda makes me want to track one down to at least look at its "guts." I actually used my -004a in 3 phase for backup power to my...
