M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

Found this site. Has anybody bought from them? Prices seem really high https://www.easternsurplus.net/PartDetails/9097/M1101-M1102-Trailer-Body-With-Tailgate

M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

Good points. No offense taken (I reserve that for the shoddy FB groups :D ) I will add some more to this. I have been hunting for a while for a bed from a 1101/02 to fit on this trailer. So far, that search has come up empty. I missed out on some auctions as well. So, this was an alternative...

M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

Update of plans since my last post. - Got the trailer tagged and brought it home from my friend's yard. It was the first run and it towed very nicely behind the LX - Removed the ford wheels and sold the set. Back to the Humvee tires for now. Trailer is parked in the backyard as I restart the...

M116A3 - VA Title & Registration, Insurance question

Not offended at all. This is my first ever trailer and I don’t mind being educated on the nuances. Maybe I’m over thinking it. Thank you.

M116A3 - VA Title & Registration, Insurance question

I haven't approached the VA DMV to inquire about a transfer. My ME plates are current and good for 5 more years. I am a VA resident and have been hearing about VA/MD LEO stopping private vehicles with a mix of VA & ME plates to collect some remuneration for the state coffers. Hence this query.

M116A3 - VA Title & Registration, Insurance question

Hello all, I bought a M116A3 from a friend in MD earlier this year. I live in Herndon, VA. After some initial research, I was unable to find credible information on how to get the trailer registered in VA. So, I got it registered in ME for $125 total out the door. Everything was done my email. I...

LOL. Yeah soon. Just waiting for plates to arrive so that I can town the trailer home from my friend’s place. [emoji1787]

M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

Slight change of plans for the tow rig. After unsuccessfully trying to convince my wife that she could learn to comfortably drive the Excursion while on trips, I have decided to sell it. It will be replaced by a 2001 Lexus LX450 that I made a deal on this morning. This also means that some of...

I think I am going to paint the trailer black. The tan & Chrome don't go well :)

Just documenting some of the measurements. With the HMMWV wheels, the trailer sits about 3" taller than these measurements. I have 33" tires on them for now.

Actually, I did use a 4" raised hitch and the trailer still is nose down :) I can't go any higher on the hitch as the barn doors would not open.

M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

As it stands now, the trailer still sits quite a bit higher in the back essentially having a nose down kind of profile when hooked up with a 4" riser hitch. Has anybody switched the axles to go 'over' the leaf springs instead of under them as they come from the factory? I see that there are...

M116A3 - First Overland Trailer Build!

Spent some time this morning working on the trailer. Accomplished the following today - Switched out the HMMWV wheels to Superduty wheels to match the Excursion - Converted the lights to run on 12V. Cut off the 12 pin plug and installed a 7 pin trailer plug.

Yes. Something like this I’m usually not a big fan of spacers. But this will have to do until I can swap axles sometime in the future.
