Has anyone ever tried covering the old dash pad with OD canvas before?

    strange "bump" when decelerating quickly

Pull the rear drive shaft and check your input pinion. you will probably be able to turn it by hand and make the clunk you r hearing. It is the backlash in the gearing which is normal for how the differential is made.

    She didn't start this morning

In a way, I worked in a motor/machine/weld shop for a few years as a welder. They mainly rebuilt motors for haul trucks and power plants. However I am an industrial electrician now. I also have a number of old vehicles and equipment.

    She didn't start this morning

i would say it is your solenoid. It is probably making an intermittent connection in the contacts.

    She didn't start this morning

If it goes clunk and the starter does not crank the engine then you have an issue between your starter and solenoid. My guess is the solenoid coil engages which is the clunk you here. So either the contacts are bad in the solenoid not allowing current to flow to your starter all the time or...

Did you snag that 1009 in spearfish or here in town?

mechanical fuel cut off on m1009

I have thought about that as well. I have, however, never looked to see what would be required to do it. A choke cable connected to the fuel shut off is all that would be needed. About a month ago at work the solenoid on our forklift fried and we needed to use it, so i tied the shut off back...

-10 outside and the m1009 started...

I live in Gillette and mine started with a few cycles of the glow plugs last winter when it was -20. I have since installed a Katz tank heater and have had no problems with starting it.

    need help installing tank heater

Well, I used a Katz tank heater. As far as tying it into the system, I bought a tee from Napa that fits the lower radiator hose and hooked up there. I will post pics later.

    m1009 tire size

I think a 4 inch lift would be enough for clearance on those tires, I am not sure if you can run those without a lift. If you stick with a skinny tire there is less of an issue with clearances. I went with a 9.00-11 bias ply which is roughly 36x10.5 then put an add a leaf on the front. There...

Online Maps of Black Hills National Forests?

As far as night temp goes, be prepared for at least 20. Chances are it wont get that cold but the weather is very unpredictable. I went camping in the mountains down by Laramie Wyoming last weekend and one night it was about 15 degrees out yet 80 during the day. Out here on the plains we...

Online Maps of Black Hills National Forests?

The hills are definitely a good time. As far as elevation, don't worry about it. I am around the same at 4500ft and my m1008 does fine. There is a mall in Rapid City, but probably not what you would consider a mall. Mt. Rushmoore, Crazy Horse, Jewel cave, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country USA...

38's on M1008= Better Gas Mileage?

Maybe another dumb question. How does lifting a vehicle decrease fuel mileage? Its the same vehicle, you're not adding any additional mass or wind resistance. The only way I can see a decrease in mileage is the larger tires will throw your odometer off displaying a lower number of miles than...

    M1031 glowplug relay problem?

Glow plug timer. Mine was the same way, I had to turn the ignition on and off until i could hear the solenoid click in. If you install a push button it will bypass the timer.

    M1009 and locakable gas caps

No that one won't work unless you weld a pipe nipple with the correct threads on to you fill neck. That cap has female threads on it.
