North Texas Recovery. Wish me luck.

nice truck, and of course I hope theres no 'false' clearance signs on that 900 miles route but mm you know anyhow let us eventually know how it goes when the truck is into your own workspace and you're wrenching around with it?

    two transmissions-related questions perhaps

I remember finding this diagram on the web long before I ever knew of steelsoldier being on the internet.. https://matarama.com/sites/default/files/images/unimog-416-416-20-speed-cascade-transmission-mataramacom.jpg how commonplace were these specific kind of transmission anyway? I still can't...

    How to lock up / secure a M35 A3 ?

nice to see I perhaps got @HDN and @Mullaney falling over laughing? even I won't really want my own vehicle to self-destruct..umm unless of course it had some very privy military hardware that absolutely shouldn't end up on someone else's hand tho ;-)

    How to lock up / secure a M35 A3 ?

@Jbulach when you said that I immediately thought of this (only seen parts of this particular 007 movie online, never yet actually watched the physical full movie yet mind you) scene:

    How to lock up / secure a M35 A3 ?

hehe @HDN and if we want to complicate it a bit more make it that if you do it in the wrong order (eg turn-right signal first instead of left first) it would simply reset the mechanisms back to the start point? I only thought of that because of the similar relationship to the special briefcase...

    glow plugs and slight overvoltage?

ah I didn't have an engine in mind, just that it was a truck diesel (like for example the M35's Continental engine) and regarding literally going crazy on the voltage, you should see the stories about european people that somehow thought that flipping their psu's little red switch from 220v to...

    glow plugs and slight overvoltage?

thanks for not minding me asking about 'little' things there and there, anyhow heres my next one.. how bad is it to drive a glow voltage 1v-2v higher than its paper rating considering that its generally only on for a short time as well? (I partially asked this because of how for example with...

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR 2023 - VOTE HERE

@SCM35A2 I want say two things for now 1. I can understand where the modern world is coming from but still its sometimes simply nice to have a engine that is just a raw engine and the only electrical present at all is for the spark/glow system alone, nothing more you know?? or to aptly quote...

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR 2023 - VOTE HERE

some things I'll say for sure.. that unimog really looks like it thinks its a high-speed backhoe tractor (except for two separate seats instead of spin-around single seat) @mkcoen has an interesting something as I wonder about whats with its hood in particular is @kendelrio a Kaiser? (Sure...

a silly of an open question, main fusebox location?

in general, and you know I now do think of that inside the cabin does make sense considering who would want to troubleshoot an annoying problem in poor outdoor weather and/or over a quite dirty engine? (on an offtopic note I had not heard of a 915 beofre so had to look that up now and funny...

a silly of an open question, main fusebox location?

I know that generally where it was at is best left where its at but if you were to do a total rewire job within existing lamps etc provisions and/or working on a new vehicle completely from the ground up instead, where would you had really put the fusebox yourself? (especially in term of under...

Steel Soldiers MV of the YEAR 2023 - VOTE HERE

scrolls through the photos wondering if I want to vote on something now, then almost mimic Doc Brown being a little startled when I see something that I thought I had already seen..stares again..finally pulls the keyboard and starts typing you're a difficult one @SCM35A2 i'm going to have to...

    How to lock up / secure a M35 A3 ?

I too had thought that if I eventually end up with a M35/M36 I would too had simply hide a heavy-duty disconnect somewhere well out of view (in the boot area underneath dashboard is a little too 'obvious' to me but mm) and leave it at that. plus just to top that off on my engine belt there'll...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2023 - December VOTE HERE!

heh I wasn't sure between the truck or the motorcycle but decided to vote on the truck for December. have fun @SCM35A2 (even then don't mind if me being a bit new to truck mechanicals, I'm still somewhat wondering whats with the thick pipe visible inside the wheel well behind the steer tire?)

    alternators and water..

thanks @Jbulach , was not sure if I might be overthinking that one unsealed part of the electrical system or not. will just simply try remember to not worry about it

    alternators and water..

how bad would ten seconds submersion at rare times had been for conventional (air-cooled open shell type) alternator providing it was a rural source with relatively clear water? not looking to literally try ford anything but this is more of in name of crossing a small active river thats like...

Getting started from scratch with a Deuce in 2024?

I guess the only one small caveat toward what @HDN said is, air-over-hydraulic brakes is still considered hydraulic brakes in many places but pure air brakesystems on the other hand legally requires an extra endorsement on your driving license regardless of your vehicle's weightdata plates

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

as someone might had jokingly said "if it doesn't fit take a sledgehammer to it to make it FIT!", of course the permanent damage to both objects afterward might be a possible issue!

    M1088 camper conversion

@coachgeo its unrelated (of a different topic nature) but the vintage canal boats in england etc needed a diamond-hardy drill for if you wanted to ever make a hole in them as they were built out of real iron compared to being able to pretty much use any lazy drills [relatively speaking] on the...

Getting started from scratch with a Deuce in 2024?

welcome @kurtomatic and I too have liked the M35, and if you didn't know this before a M36 is basically a stretched-a-few-feet-longer M35 as otherwise basically its all the same parts (minus the extended chassis frame itself and whatever makes up the bed load) just be mindful that as much as...
