P51 down at Reno air races

Most old War Birds fly using the "Experimental" classification since no PMA authority is available. The main difference is that Experimental doesn't require traceability for cycle or hour timed parts.

    m101a2 parts

No need for a press, just give it a smack with a BFH and drive it out. As for the installation, a press or a stack of washers will do fine for the installation. Just apply a small amount of grease on the knurled surface, stack some washers then install the lug nut and tighten til the stud pulls...

does stuff disapear in trailer while waiting for EUC?

I have 301-677-3309 listed in my phone for him. Justin will look out for you and every other GL customer that frequents Ft. Meade, Aberdeen or any other location he happens to have charge of. It also never hurts to schedule an appointment EARLY in the AM and bring a dozen donuts. They remember...

does stuff disapear in trailer while waiting for EUC?

Just give Justin Miller a call and let him know your concerns. He's a good guy and usually runs a tight ship.

M923 Ft. Lee VA. to southern Ky.

Pull axles or remove drive shafts. I used to pull axles as there was no chance at losing a high dollar u-joint with the associated hardware. Since I didn't have to clean the rear wheels when delivered, the axle was the easy way to go. Plus you don't have to lay on the ground to do it.

    40 Foot Container Trailers?

File a mechanics lean with the DVM for storage costs. If the last owner doesn't respond, you can get title to them. Easy to do.

The NJ Flood trucks an update :)

Having recovered quite a few vehicles that were flooded, the effects of flood damage don't always show up right away. Besides mold that will start to grow in the foam seating and any sound proofing insulation, I suspect that these two trucks will end up either needing or having the wiring...

    M101A2 Hitch question

It's PINTLE and LUNETTE. Spelling aside, the hitch design leaves a lot to be desired. There is nothing keeping the pintle mount to riser bar together. Just slapping a 3/8" plate with a couple of captive pins in the pintle does nothing to transfer the side load into the riser bar.

    Loading trailers at Chambersburg

How did you do that? The goose neck trailer has frown a set of legs below the first trailer up on the neck. Most GL locations will accommodate you once they get a feel for how you are as a customer and if they feel that your loading method is safe. Once they get the signed release it's up to...

5 ton tractor with 12' deuce bed???

Docfarmall has/had a M915 tractor with deuce bed. From the pics that were posted, it looks real sharp. I've got the same plans. Hopefully I'll be able to find a M35 dropside bed close by, otherwise I'll have to chop down a 5 ton bed which I really don't what do.

    Painting Diamond Plate Aluminum

No matter weathered or new, aluminum requires a surface that has the oxide layer removed prior to paint application. The fastest method is sand blasting and then using Alodine. The problem is that Alodine is a chromated product which has to be handled properly or you contaminate the ground or...

    M105A2 VME rebuild defect

Yep, a right angle die grinder with a 2-2/12" sanding pad will make short work of the offending metal. Looking at the photos posted, the only portion that needs relief is the top not the whole depth. Try a single pocket and see how the bow fits 3dAngus. My best guess is that it will be fine...

Bought my first M101A3.... now what? :D

On one of my first trailer recoveries I used the Harbor Freight magnetic tow lights. The first issue I ran into was that the lights weren't wired correctly. Someone how the Chicom's wired the running and stop lights wrong. The running light activated when the brake pedal was pressed and the...

9/10/2011 - Breakfast in Eldersburg, Maryland

Driving a Volvo 855. I pulled into the lot, didn't see any trucks and pulled back out onto RT 32. I thought of going inside, but decided that I may have missed those that showed up. Looking at the responses for the thread, I knew it was going to be lightly attended. Hope all enjoyed breakfast.

Can a Deuce be used as a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)?

Why don't you fly below he radar and use a pickup truck and trailer? You won't have issues getting a DOT or IFTA number, all they want is your money. Have you looked into what weight tags are going to run you for the truck? If you were here in Maryland you'd be paying $305 per year just for...

Can a Deuce be used as a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV)?

There isn't a problem with using any older vehicle as a commercial vehicle with government regulations, the problem comes with getting insurance on a 50 year old vehicle with the liability numbers you need. As mentioned, creature comforts would be nice. Power steering, AC, power brakes...

9/10/2011 - Breakfast in Eldersburg, Maryland

No worries Matt, I'm sure the insured valve is more than the car is worth. :-) After all it an old GM (as opposed to the new an improved Government Motors) that they want to walk away from the warranty on. Talked with you dad last evening and might be coming down for a work visit in the next...

9/10/2011 - Breakfast in Eldersburg, Maryland

Hey guys, had to work this AM and got to Eldersburg about 10:45 and no one was there. I thought I saw PHD's Camaro headed back on RT 32 but wasn't sure. What happened to you folks?
