I believe another option for you is to not replace the electric fuel pump. The truck's IP should be able to suck fuel out of the tank just fine - I remember reading some posts about M35A2 owners who had dead in-tank pumps and didn't know it. None of the A3s were built with in-tank pumps. But...

Quite a few projects start with being ugly! I was fortunate to get my truck from someone who took care of it and gave it a new coat of paint while they had it. It will need another coat at some point in the next few years.

Painted and reinstalled glovebox for the first time in about 2 years - heater core repair will have to wait a bit longer! At least the flow to it is reliably shut off. Next up: Either reinstall wheel valve stone covers or paint gladhand dummy couplings.
