I wouldn't say that for me it correlates with age... and it has been a long time since I could look down and figure out anything much.
I only have a few hours into these generators, so I'm certain I haven't retained 90% of what are in the TMs, and 99.9% of what is useful.
I'm curious. What is...
Could yours have been yellow zinc (chromate) plated?

If it were me, I'd toss them in a vibrating polisher, wash them, and then hit them with WD-40 followed by Deox-It. Unless you get salt water on them afterwards, you...
Hey, I'm staying at a Holiday Inn next week, too! :ROFLMAO:
I struggle with the NEC bonding code(s) for a variety of reasons, probably because I don't have the entire code memorized and thought through. Nevertheless, having an extra path for current isn't going to cook wires that weren't going...
Not to throw shade on your HVAC techs, but I would file it under "maybe". It could get hooked up to a high vacuum pump for a couple days to dry it out, and there are ways to drain, flush and replace the oil. Whether that is worth it/important to you is a different issue. If it were mine, I...
They likely used a self piercing needle valve like the one below to tap into the line and extract the Freon safely. You can place the valve in under a minute.
I haven't met a well functioning diesel governor that I I could push around with a finger. Normally the centrifugal force in the governor is substantial to be able to adjust the fuel. I do agree with @Ray70 that the governor vibration in your video makes it look like governor is either stuck, or...
You also can get headless shoulder screws;

Or there are also externally threaded dowel pins, aka a threaded on one end stud;

I'd vote for the latter...
Have you tried Gunk-Off or graffiti remover first?
FWIW: Gunk-Off removed a bunch of surface crud from my MEP, and didn't appear to touch the CARC underneath. A few minutes with a paper towel took some baked on adhesive, remind of Govplanet stickers, and a bunch of non-CARC spray paint...
I know nothing about the pin, but I have used Loctite 660 on problem keyways and pins in other applications.
So, FWIW...

Have you tried reaching out to Niehoff, or who,ever made your particular generator/alternator head? There are a couple of variations, and without photos, it is a little hard to tell.
FWIW: this might help

Personally, I would move the generator, and run wires for the distance. It is cheaper and less likely to cause issues with your house/outbuilding.
If the goal is to hide it, I would hide it out back, and go from there. If you need ideas, look at moonshiners' tricks.
All the best,

Long experience has taught me to watch the path often taken...
Normally, I would think that button should be pressed infrequently at best. (Like never) Mainly, my suspicions would be up that whatever is wrong is something that kept getting overlooked, like an intermittently bad outlet, or...
