Flu 419 problems. Clutch starter switch and boom not holding position.

My master switch is a little touchy as well. Though my reading indicated maybe something else? Do you have lights and gauges and what not during these no start situations? The backhoe control valves are really not that difficult to deal with. It sounds to me like a valve problem. Probably just...

The float detent should hold the lever down. It can be adjusted (provided there's not too much rust built up) at the valve. Just a heads up.

    Loud bangs while operating backhoe

I’ve heard and felt some loud snap crackle pop type bangs while doing similar things. I too have failed to find a source, though I think it may be related to all of the reinforcement that freightliner added to the frame. It’s all bolted together and if the bolts aren’t 100% torqued in tight you...

What are the front tires on that FLU? I likey. I can see the Cont MTP on the rear, but the front looks like a Mich ZXL in a size that works for the SEE. Depending on ply count, that could be be my new $$$ pit. Ideas?

There seems to be a discussion going on and I don't want to hijack, but I'm working on a project and would like to know from FLUfarm at what rpm he thinks his snow thrower operates best. Both the thrower and the auger parts if possible. I'm guessing about 1700 rpm for the thrower and something...

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps I can squeeze a little bit more wisdom out of it though; does anyone know what that plastic “module“ right near the heater in the drivers foot well does? I can’t figure out what it is from the schematics or the TMs. It just plugs into the wiring harness, has five or...

My ether system was leaking when I got my see so I just removed it. It starts great down to about 10 F (coldest I've tried). Point being that I'm not sure how necessary it is and secondly, if one really wanted to give her a little shot, the intake is an easy reach from the drivers seat with a...

Helpful Source to Identify Proper Fluids

Yes, looks like a nice reference but they also listed dot 4 as brake fluid. Fine if you flush the system completely right, but uncle sam ran dot 5 did they not? I’m not sure about the mixing if the two but it’s supposed to be bad.

Proper gear/range for using front bucket for excavation

+1 on direct not underdrive. I think that came up in the SEE HMMH HME thread. One thing i’ve found that helps is to deploy the hoe to vertical. The machine balance front to back really benefits from that even if the roll becomes more sensitive.

Flu 419 Lost all gears in intersection

The “high / low” collar on the gear shift is indeed connected to an air solenoid, but it's really a “direct/underdrive” (more like a split shift). I think there’s a spring that keeps the transmission in direct until the solenoid works against it. The lever for that trans function is on the...

    use backhoe as a crane?

Thanks for the video. Always nice to watch someone else hop on and off rather than me. One thought that comes to mind ...again, is lifting with the boom locked. The boom cylinders always relief before the stick. Does anybody have thoughts about locking them out with the stowage ring?

    use backhoe as a crane?

Did you lift with the tie-down eyes on the stick? A bit more leverage that way if so.

    bolt size

Mine are also SAE. Marked as such. I'd be a little surprised if they were metric from the start as freightliner was the installer of the FL4 (i think) and in the late '80's early '90's SAE was still very standard. First time I removed them a 24" pipe wrench with a cheater did just fine.

    Slow oil pressure 406 / 419

I also hate engines idling unnecessarily, especially diesels. I always shake my head a little bit when I see some stupid person’s ridiculous, loud, lifted diesel truck idling in the grocery store parking lot for who knows how long. I’m not sure where that wives tale came from but engine slobber...

Same kinda deal here, not sure how much that blade weighs, but is in the neighborhood of 2200. I recently excavated and moved about 40 yards of material 300 ish feet and it made things much better to leave the backhoe up. The weight of a full loader bucket is nicely counter balanced with a...

Be honest, would any of us be surprised if the actual price was $132? I wouldn’t be, special Mercedes unobtainium plastic.

Sounds like the little plastic ball bushing in the top of the transmission has broken. Similar symptoms reported by a number of people with that problem. Sounds like a pretty easy fix if that’s the case.
