    black out drive question

The blackout system consists of two parts, black out marker, black out drive. For safety, as in WE DON'T WANT TO SHOW LIGHT OR MAKE NOISE AND GIVE AWAY OUR POSITION - the brake lights, horn, headlights, etc. are all inoperable during blackout. There are 4 blackout markers, 2 in the front...

    USMC markings in Vietnam

I found a few examples of vehicles with USMC unit markings. 1. F Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division (infantry for those that don't speak Marine) ;) 2. H&S Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division (Headquarters Co. for the regiment) 3. The...

    m1028 SRW to DRW

Does anyone have a source for these kits? It would be a great help on my M1028 with the S250 shelter. If not, how about the MWO for the upgrade or the content list for the kit?

    Anyone here have a T-72 or 55/54/60????

Rule #!, armored vehicles (tank, apc, afv, etc.) are NOT designed for crew comfort. They are vehicles that transport a weapons system (or human cargo) and crew stations are sort of fitted in around that. "Check list: engine and transmission, appropriate armor, radios, guns, ammo, fuel tank...

    Info about cucv radios

Yep, 6 meters, and not only that, but you can't use them with (assuming there are any in your area) a 6 meter repeater. So you are limited to talking on 6 meters to other green radios in other green vehicles. Nice for convoys and road trips, and keeping it real, but not much else.

Naming my Deuce (Nam vets help needed)

Naming trucks was done on occasion, and varied by unit. In the Marines we did not name our vehicles nor add any idenfitying markings. Most of the standard unit markings were covered for OPSEC purposes.

    need some pics!!! antenna mounts

This has been covered before on another thread - don't recall the exact title. Do a search for antenna mounts or some such and you should come up with some photos of the larger trucks and various methods of mounting antennas. I know one was mounted on the front bumper, along with other variants.

needing info on a s-318 comm shelter

TM 10-5411-204-13 and TM 10-5411-205-23P are probably your best starting point. They are for the S250 shelter, but cover repair and have a nice parts breakdown. Additional information that can be helpful is in MIL.HDKB. 116, TB-11-2300-372-14, SB 11-640 and TB 43-0124. I think they are all...

Painting Noob; How To Paint Camo?

There are a number of resources for information on painting military vehicles. Since there were several thoughts on camouflage (4 color, 3 color, etc.) plus different time periods and different types of equipment. Some references include: TB 43-0147 TB 43-0209 TB 43-0242 TB 746-93-1 TM 43-013...

    Radio Trouble

Ferroequinologist I have two army subcourses in pdf that might have the answer. 1 is for troubleshooting the an/vic-1 without a radio and the other for troubleshooting the an/vic-1 with fm radio. I'm going to try to upload them to resources, but don't know how long it will take for them to be...

    USMC markings in Vietnam

When I was with 3rd Anti-Tank Battalion on Okinawa we had the red shield with yellow triad on our wheeled vehicles, water cans, etc. I don't recall having these markings on the Ontos. This is a stencil version of the WWII patch for the 3rd Marine Division. When I was with the 1st Anti-Tank...

Finally Bought an XM211 Deuce! 8-)

Nice find. Congratulations! I've been contemplating one of the larger trucks and eyeballed several M211 - sort of a "classic" duce. IMHO But SPACE is a problem right now so will have to continue watching for a bit longer. Enjoy the new toy!

    Correct Stencil Font

When you say that you want the markings to be correct for Vietnam - is that Vietnam era but not in-country or in Vietnam. In the field we covered / or painted over most of the markings. Really didn't want nice yellow letters standing out in the bush. Also, when I was with 3rd Marine Division it...

    S250G Data plates and Q's

The data plates varied based on the equipment installed in the shelter. Mine was a RATT Rig (radio tele-type with a GRC-106 - all the radios had been removed unfortunately). Attached is an over view shot of the data plates on the rear door, and a couple of closeups. Another clue as to what was...

    PRC-104 "Stump the chump" question

I think the problem that we are facing is 1) budget (someone has to be paid to take the time to determine that it is okay to change the distribution restrictions on EACH manual. Then go through the process of getting it done) and 2) motivation (why should the military waste lots of dollars -...

Just got some stuff, now what?

It could be sold/traded to someone who is trying to put the correct comm gear in a HUMVEE or similar "modern" vehicle. If no interest in SS, there is always EBAY - someone out there will always buy anything. ;)
