What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I found the kid I sold my other CUCV that I had installed a 472 Cadillac engine in the other day. Seems he got into an accident going to fast and busted up the truck a bit. Sounds like he also over revved the engine racing some Toyota car. It now has a very loud knock ! To bad, that was a good...

Since your up, how's the 454 engine doing ? Is the cost of fuel getting to you yet ? :D With my lead foot I would be going through a tank of fuel in a day ! At least that's what my wife says !

I normally stay up till 3:00 am. I worked swing-shift for 30 years and the habit is a hard one to break. Plus the pain is usually worse at night so here I am.

I was just back from the Marine Corp and went on a skiing trip to Leavenworth with a group of college friends from church (about 40) . I had my IHC Scout which was all decked out with all the goodies. I got in a race with a guy that had a nice Chevy 4X4 truck . Seems he knew the road (which was...

If you research it a little more you will see they did use this style up to the 1970's.

That fuel pump looks like an old 1960's to 1970's Chevrolet. I always like that style.

Your not kidding about there being no rust ! That is one nice clean truck ! I used a "steam cleaner" on mine when I replaced the engine. Then painted everything with "primer" and then flat black paint.

What you guys back there don't have to deal with much is "Black Ice" . Out here it is a daily occurrence in winter. The sun comes up and thaws the ground. The rainy sleet comes down and then the sun goes down and everything freezes again until the sun comes back up and thaws it all again. You...

I've broken a ton of parts, but never a front end part. Once I break something in a front end I'll change my tune. I wasn't going to buy a spool for an axle I'm replacing soon. I can respect that kind of decision. Run her till she breaks !

The problem with welding the gears is the weld itself is not strong enough since you will not get as good a bond as you would with mild steel. Since the gears are an "alloy" the penetration is not that good. I know as I have welded gears before. That's why there are "spools" out there being...

Your truck looks just like mine now with those DuraTracs ! Except mine is tan. Never liked the tan color. I also love the fifth wheel ! Now If I can just convince the wife to sell that 24ft trailer and get a good fifth wheel !

It already comes with a plug for a temperature gauge. Since I run a good grade Synthetic gear oil in mine I didn't bother installing one.

At lunch time half the talk from mechanics is complaining about the design engineers who built the last piece of equipment we where just working on. I usually start by saying "just give me 2 minutes with them and a baseball bat ! " .

I bought a "butt" pad for my truck for these long trips. Helps a lot ! That and a lot of pain pills !

I always listen to Gospel music when I wrench. It helps keep me calmer when that last bolt holding the "whatever" won't come off and there is no physical way to actually reach it since it is behind something and your just using your hands to "feel" it. The Cummins M11 has the stupid fuel pump...

I haven't been over to Ocean Shores for years now. I was over there on the Olympic National Park this last summer with the family and my M1031 (or whatever the pickup version is, I always forget) . Maybe we can get some local members to take a trip to Ocean Shores for a weekend.
