1953 Gasser dash panel question-What did they look like?

Thanks for that. It's what my truck looks like now. I have another instrument panel and the 3 lights are larger, and kind of cup or bowl shaped. trying to figure out if it's the original. I don't have a pic. will post in the morning after I dig it out of the shed

1953 Gasser dash panel question-What did they look like?

Can anyone post a picture of the Gasser dash/instrument panel? Mines a '53 and the dash in my truck is later, from a newer Deuce

Soft Top Ripped Loose While Driving.

the worst hydraulic "leak" I ever had was while filling a piece of equipment with oil using an air powered pump. it was filling slow, so I went to the fridge and got a bite to eat, forgot about it for not long, maybe 20 minutes. when I remembered, there was a 20' (at least) diameter spill...

you haven't really lived until you've driven a Deuce or a 5 ton with no top and the windshield laid down, in a typhoon, at night

    5 ton owner...finally

I was one of those Seabee refugees! I was with MIUWU 106 in San Diego. Loved that unit, but they did a couple reorg's that eventually sent most of us packing back to the NCF. I ended up with NSW and was there for 11 years before I retired from the Reserves in 2020

    Deuce differences

I know this thread is 6 years old, but we're talking about trucks that some are almost 70. My '53 Studebaker/REO had a winch and high headlights.

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

well, at this point you really only have 2-3 options find or make a tool to hold the crank in order to achieve your 200 ft lbs. of torque and give it another try or get a new crankshaft lot of dynamics at play right there. torsional, vibrational, heat, etc. it's a 6200 cc beast that's...

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

Yep, I've seen pressed on balancers run without a bolt even present and not come off

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

Yeah, good point for sure. shouldn't the balancer need to be pressed or pushed on with a tool? if a new one just slides on then for sure the snout of that crank is out of spec. I just re read the OP, and it says he tried to weld it and it still came loose and shattered the weld. who knows how...

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

there's likely hundreds of these made for this exact task by Kent Moore or OTC laying in a conex box in Iraq that nobody knows or cares what they're for. probably using them as a charm necklace for their camels

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

I'm not familiar with the 6.2, but I think I know what you're saying. you need a wrench like this that will hold the balancer while you torque the crank bolt maybe you can fabricate one from a nice thick piece of 3 or 4" flat stock. don't worry about the square drive hole. just lay it out using...

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

just hold the crank however you have to. by the starter ring gear, by the pulley, what does the TM say to do? here's a holder for a Duramax. I'm sure there's one out there for your 6.2

    rifle holder

Is there a rifle holder available that will hold an M1 Garand in an M35? How about one that will secure an M1 Carbine? disregard, forgot about the internet

How do you torque the crank bolt properly?

Use a chain wrench to hold the crank pulley while you torque the bolt. use a old timing belt to protect the pulley from the chain wrench. If your crank is shot, just weld the pulley on, worry about it when you go to replace the crank

How not to treat your deuce

In the Philippines, they still use these trucks in their Army and Navy. I saw trucks on the pier that I thought were going for scrap, being taken somewhere else for repairs. They cut up 55 gallon drums and hammer them into patch panels for their Deuces. The oldest one I saw still in use was 1959...

    M936 Boom Removal

Worked at a shop where we did a lot of boom overhauls. We rigged a jackhammer to a skid that had forklift holes. We’d raise it up to the work and drive the pins out with that set up. Just had to be careful not to mushroom the end of the pin f it’s not tapered. It’s also possible to get off...

    Bobbed 1953 M35 Studebaker/REO Gasser

You’re right. I want the expanded metal/mesh over the top of those 2 bars. I might even just make up the 2 bars out of angle iron for more coverage
