Nice work, have fun with it. Great to see another one preserved!

What have you done to your JEEP today

THE END IS NEAR... No, I'm not a news network or politician trying to scare you into believing whatever they are selling... Instead, some good news, after18 months, there is light at the end of the restoration tunnel for my USAF marked 1955 M38A1. See previous posts and photos 542 + 544, 610 +...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Canadianz and DF... Yes, you understood my question. Your reply makes sense, thought why anyone wouldn't use the tow hooks is beyond me. Charlie, my old Jeep restorer friend said most of the work on a Jeep is undoing someone else's "work", so I can believe it.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Nice work! Good to someone making prigress. A QUESTION FOR M38A1 FANS... On the Jeep immediately abive...look at the inboard (near grille) edge of the front bumper, Looks rough and uneven. Mine is like that too. My restorer says it is a factory unit. Almost Looks like it was cut free hand...

    1966 CJ-5 to M38A1 Clone Build

Last year you asked about markings and hood numbers. In researching my anonymous M38A1, I stumbled across a suggestion from a Jeep military vehicle guy...make the last 5 digits of the hood number correspond to the Willys serial (Easy on my USAF-marked Jeep with the fiscal year number ,then the...

    M38A1 MRC 83 100 amp system

Nice looking Jeep. Is it an original USMC unit? It looks like you have had a milder winter than we have up in Washington. PS. My hat's off to anyone who can restore a Half Track. That is hard core MV work.

    M38A1 USAF data plate

My other hobby is antique aircraft, military and civillian. I learned a long time ago to never say never.:) Whatever you are sure of and believe to be correct, someone will dig up a photo that will prove you wrong.

    1952 M38 radiator question

I had my original repaired. Not the least expensive way to go. It cost a bit more than buying a reproduction unit, but I guess it will be worth it.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Here is a shot of my Jeep with the first coat of Strata Blue applied. Don't worry, in person the paint is much darker than seen here under florescent lights. With hardner added to the paint, it will be glossy, but I don't see that as that critical on an Air Force vehicle.

    Strata Blue Paint #'s

For what it's wirth, here are my samples. All applied to same material and photographed in the same light. I went with PPG.

    Batteries

I have asked the restorer of my M38A1 about this issue. Up here in the Northwest, I won't be driving it in the winter, so it will share the tender I rotate between my other 3 summer only vehicles. I have a 12v "Battery Tender"-brand unit. I'll attach the plug in cables to each battery (fitted...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Received an invoice from the shop today. Here is a list of work performed. And keep in mind, this was a good looking DRIVEABLE, RUNNING, RUST FREE vehicle. It came with very limited service and repair history. Its previous owner had some stuff done, but seemed to be on a budget. See a "before"...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Maverick... I miss my Texas Jeep friends. My first, a stock CJ-5 with a V-8, was restored by Charlie, the best "old Jeep guy" in Abilene. My CJ is still there, my new M38A1 is being done in memory of Charlie.

    Slave cable part needed

Possible stupid question... Could the two pin unit be attached to a cable? No need in buying the adaptor if I don't really need it. I might be in touch...in three months I guess.

    Slave cable part needed

Thanks, I'll try to get a photo. But it is the standard NATO unit for the M38A1 period...two prongs.

    Slave cable part needed

In the restoration of my M38A1, I'm strongly considering making the 24v power plug/port on the right side operable. I volunteer at an antique aircraft museum and it might come in handy. Not an everyday event, but you never know...Besides it would be neat to jumpstart the P-51, Spitfire, Stearman...

Question about the "Jerry Can" mounting M38A1

If you don't have access to the stock, or more probably the ability to cut them, the spacers are available from several of the well known Military Jeep part vendors.... Prices are between $16-$20.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Haven't done a photo update for awhile. (Last photo in Post 544). My M38A1 is being refurbished...all the mechanical components have been checked, re-sealed as necessary, cleaned, painted or for things like brakes, replaced. Under hood is spotless, it looked first rate...it's easy to see since...

    Radio antenna mount question

Yes, I'm former Air Force, albeit long after the M38A1 period. The vehicle has no history or hood number, so I'm not erasing history. I'll keep the parts I take off for the next owner.

    M38A1 Top

In 2004, I sold one to Collings Bros in the DFW area. I took it off a 71 CJ-5.
