Adding a gauge pod and tachometer

The premade switch box is called the "options panel" in technical jargon and comes complete as a kit (part # 57K1944, SMID: 147-1982-303). The "kit" consists of the housing, front panel, a wiring harness, knockouts for the tach and all but one switch, and some metric screws. No switches or tach...

    Digitizer Rack installation photos/instructions

Hi, all! I'm now the proud owner of a complete digitizer rack assembly for Bessie (my M1079) but it's all in pieces. The seller had a set of pre-removal photos but, sadly, lost them all in a phone upgrade. Assembling the basic rack itself isn't too hard and I can tell the top plate from the...

2016 Ga Military Vehicle Rally buy/sell/trade thread

If you encounter Southeast Military Tires as a vendor, please beware! They are located in Georgia and are likely to be at this show. These guys ripped me off for a 85%+ Michelin XML, which arrived with a 1/2" chunk of steel penetrating the tread all the way through. They refused to replace it...

So your thinking Expo FMTV .. Max height ??

That's the whole reason I bought an M1079 (shop van body). I can use it for almost anything. I plan to add a single axle trailer for additional carrying capacity.

Blue Ridge Victory Rally and Swap Meet 9/9 to 10/1/2016

The weather Friday night prevented me from doing my last tire change so I spent Saturday doing that instead of going to the rally. At least Bessie is now ready for inspection. :-D Next year...

Blue Ridge Victory Rally and Swap Meet 9/9 to 10/1/2016

I hope to make it. Depends on whether I can get a new tire and install it beforehand... (it's a long story) If I go it will be Saturday only. I'd be coming from Woodbridge.

    FMTV Air Horn Install

    FMTV Door Handle Questions

I have the older style "lift up" door latches but mine is a 1994 M1079. FWIW, user recksmilparts sells this style door handle for both driver and passenger sides, and they include keys!!

    FMTV Air Horn Install

Ah, it wasn't apparent from the description that is was a fitting that was modified, not the tank itself. So I'm genuinely curious (not throwing stones, I promise!) about why you chose to modify an existing fitting instead of replacing it with a tee? Simple expediency is an acceptable answer...

    FMTV Air Horn Install

FWIW, I'd be terrified to drill and tap into an air tank, or drill into an air tank to weld on a disc of thicker steel (I assume) which was then tapped, without completely dismounting and pressure testing the tank afterwards. At the minimum, I'd be ensuring I didn't lose my air (and brakes!)...

    New to me M1088A1 tractor

You mentioned there was a comms rack installed behind the passenger seat. Can you provide a set of photos of that?

    Northern Virginia meet up?

Anyone interested in a Northern Virginia meet up? I live in Woodbridge. Depending on who all chimes in, we could meet for lunch somewhere or even have an impromptu Saturday Night MV Show somewhere... Cheers, Sapphire M1079 LMTV Shop Van

LMTV guys.. What do you do with yours?

I have the M1079 (shop van body) and plan to use it for camping, parades, hauling, emergency comms, and as my Zombie Apocalypse Bug Out Truck.

Adding an i-beam trolley crane to M1079 van body

    Thanks for the info, radbad!

    LMTV cab latch

Since I have the M1079 van body there's little room for climbing up there to do anything. That's why I resorted to the more difficult repair. Just sayin'... Sapphire

    LMTV cab latch

Yep, it's out too far. I had the same issue two weeks ago and found that the latch pin on the cab did not lay flat enough in the cradle to allow the locking pin to fully engage. My solution was to weld a piece of 3/16" flat bar steel to the top forwardmost surface of the latch pin where it bolts...
