I have read the same book and I agree. I kinda suspect if this particular truck ever did have the tilting hood it was probably damaged during forest service duties and with the original type sheet metal not available, the M35 style steel was used to repair. I haven't yet found evidence of...
I have recently acquired an interesting critter and I am looking for any and all insight, information and leads to get it back together. It is a 1967 XM778 Diamond REO truck Division of White motor Co, built 2 1/2 ton truck. I'll post pictures and let them do most of the talking. I am after...
MMC is alive and well, unless this is a different company or affiliate or something......http://www.marinettemarine.com I do not know about archives or records however.

Here are some pics of the door and in the cargo bay looking aft towards the engine room hatches. These are from a few years ago when we had the pilothouse off to pull the engines.
Gerry,
I will be back aboard the LCM that I take care of and I can get some pictures of this one. I do not know exactly what has been modified and what is original. Some things are obvious and some are less so. Ours has two hatches into the lazarette area, one large bolt down deck section with...
Well I guess I should let you all know, I did get my bearings apart. A few years ago...... Just a lot of rust and corrosion. It has a compound tapered roller bearing... Fancy wording for the inner race is one piece shared by the upper and lower bearing. That inner race had long ago...
Ok people, I know you have been waiting for an update. I hope th popcorn has held out. I have the engine back together and have been driving it to woek for the last week. All is well. No blowby, no bad smoke. no weird noises. All cylinders have right around 415 psi compression...
Pistons are on their way here, pump is correctly timed per the -34, pieces and parts cleaned. new gaskets here......
I have found that .5mm over, .75 mm over 1.. over roughly equal 20, 30, 40 thousanths over. Maby it just depends on the mfg of the piston.
As far as being an "American" engine, there are a lot of metric fasteners on the 6.2s. The oversized pistons are stamped ".5" on them. I have another set which are stamped "1.000M".
There are five m1009s locally. Mine sounds the same as any others here. Mine always started the best. That was the only clear difference. They all have a different sound when the cold advance is active, they all quiet down when they warm up. They make about the same power. (closed course...
I do recognize there are a lot of take out engines out there. I have a few. I suppose I am a glutton for pumishment. Also, I want to fix it to say I did. I kinda like to know why it failed and know it will run again.
Ok, I have looked at this, that, and the other thing. I think what we have here is detonation damage caused by advanced timing made more severe by cold weather. I bought the truck out of Ft Campbell, if it was warmer and the truck didnt run with the cold advance for any period of time it may...
