    New member to my family!

Look what I brought home yesterday! I actually found this truck way back in 2010 when I dated the owner's daughter (small world lol) but he said he wouldn't sell it and he was going to fix it up some day... Well a couple years later he had some hard financial times and lost his whole place...

    Possible acquisition

Im jealous... CCKWs are the trucks that got me interested in this hobby in the first place! Then all I get is a couple of measley 5 tons lol. I am hopefully buying a WWII 1-1/2 ton truck this week though . It looks like the same cab as the CCKW, just one rear axle.

    M-62 Anyone?

He isn't going to scrap it I don't think, its a "ran when parked" truck his company used to use. When I asked about another trucks danger of being scrapped he said he would leave it as a lawn ornament before he would cut up a running truck.

    M-62 Anyone?

Yeah, Its Kings Towing and Auto Salvage. 307-877-9623 I don't think the guy knew what it was, he just called it a crane.

    M-62 Anyone?

I don't have the spare time or money for it, and it would be tough talking my wife into a second M-62! I was putting it out there in case anybody else wanted it, and looking back I guess I could have made that a lot more clear.

    M-62 Anyone?

Haha that's funny you should mention the hood because although I agree that it is the ugliest hood ever, its the same one my truck has except the headlights are lower. Its nice to have the tilt hood but its as ugly as ugly gets. Its a pretty solid looking truck although I dislike some of the...

    M-62 Anyone?

I found an old M-62 in a salvage yard in southwestern Wyoming (Outside Kemmerer). I asked and he said he was asking 4,000 OBO but I think he just really threw the number out and would probably be pretty flexible. It has a very large Detroit engine that I don't know much about but the guy claims...

Where are you G744/M39 Series Owners???

Im the proud owner of a 1953 M-62 with the Mack and a '62 M-55 with the 6602, both run like champs and are soon to be back on the road for the first time in a decade for the M-62 and two and a half decades for the M-55! Both need paint and some lights and small stuff but otherwise are ready to go!

    Options for higher top speed?

Oops, totally misread, thank you for that.

    Options for higher top speed?

That was about the transfer case, I asked about the transmissions.

    Options for higher top speed?

Which transmission's top gear is the tallest? The overdrive Spicer or the Allison?

    Options for higher top speed?

You guys are making me want a 900 series for their top speed. My trucks could never achieve those speeds, not for lack of power but for lack of gearing or RPM.

    Options for higher top speed?

My ENDT-673 powered M-62A1 does about 49 at 2,000RPM with the overdrive transmission. Never heard of the 8.88 gears honestly so I always assumed it was the 6.XX ratio but I could check. It handles and brakes very well at this speed on the 11.00-20s it has on it and I would certainly like to find...

    ARB 5 ton locker

I'd find a way to scrape up the cash for a pair.

    What civilian batteries to use?

A good pair of group 31s crank my 673 Mack really well. They're Napa Commercial 31 post batteries. My 6602 Powered truck is about to get a pair as well. If your truck takes a lot of cranking to start, you may need more but they crank my 673 over easy for long enough to start my truck on a -10F...

    Dually centers on HEMTT rims

I think that wide duals would be good for flotation and looks and any other practical reason but you don't want to change the leaf spring setup if you want to keep your offroad capability. You might as well get rid of the extra axle if you're on uneven surfaces. The walking beam articulation is...

    Dually centers on HEMTT rims

Didn't some of the bridge trucks have wider dually tires in the rear? I know they were way outside the width you want but I think they used spacers and maybe their wheels without the spacers? I'm just shooting in the dark here as I don't really know much about the bridge trucks but maybe...

    Fixing Out of round Tires

I am about to try the antifreeze balancing, I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not but putting a gallon or so of antifreeze mix in each tire can yield good results, or so I have heard. I haven't tried it yet though so I can't say personally. I have a good buddy that tried the beads and it...

    M816 boom extention

My M-62 came with this boom extension which is about 16' long and weighs like 400lbs (no joke) and that ratty looking basket on the end. The basket has since become a scrap metal bin and the extension is looking at becoming the base of a wind turbine tower because I live off the grid, but I...

1 st time in the mud

Front winches came standard on many trucks and sometimes you can find the whole kit that comes with the frame extensions, PTO and shaft, winch, cable, etc. As far as a rear winch, that's up to you to figure out but I am sure there are many on SteelSoldiers that have done it. It is tough to...
