    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Cant go back to the old employer and don't really want too. The old job was awesome (hands on startup with great pay) and I worked with some talented experienced mentors, coworkers and engineers that I had a ton of respect for (from NASA, Intel, Tesla, Google, Mercedes Benz, great fabricators...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Well, I was sitting at my job with a bright future. I was promised to be relocated out to Knoxville TN to start a new life at a new factory in a location I would absolutely love and have been working on that relocation for five months prior. However, my employer pushed my relocation date to the...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

I drove out to Texas to get new tires! Removing the rims from the old tires sucked to all ****, but I managed to figure out a creative method. It was an entire week deal to get the new tires mounted, holy crap it was tough! But she looks good on the new meats and noticeably quicker...

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Here are the pics, the truck kept puking oil, I still cant figure out why but there is no reason why a M939 should be getting 5mpg. I hope it was just the engine overworking itself from the transfer-case. I smelled the horrible smell of gear oil when I entered palm springs, within a couple...

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Cool, got it towed to my buddy's property in the Redlands. 37mile tow was only $600 so I am happy. The tcase input is all screwed up and bent, I will post a video soon.

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Well, found the problem. The transfercase ate its input bearing. Thing basically caught on fire. I am stuck on the side of the I10 outside of Palm Springs. Do any of you guys know of a wrecker that can come out here? I have no towbar attachment points on the front. It would need to be a wheel...

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

I think I found the problem. It's really, really bad. The input bearing on the transfer are caught on fire from friction. The truck is 100% disabled and will need the driveshafts pulled. I am 40 miles away from my buddy's shop. Should I find a heavy wrecker or does anyone have a wheel lift? I...

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Made it another 100 miles but the headlamp harness decided to short out so no lights! Had to stop for the night. Truck is running ok but keeps throwing oil out like crazy. A quart every 70 miles. I have a friend with a shop in running springs so I am going to try and limp it there in the morning

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Had to leave a day late. 200 miles in and things are not going good. The truck is throwing oil out from the crank breather and around where the head meets the block on the left side of the engine. I can't figure out where it is coming from. Truck is lost a couple quarts. Running cool and not...

Was Broke down in Redlands Ca. Phoenix AZ to San Francisco 800miles

Well the time has come. I decided to take a senior level engineering job in SF, I am leaving tomorrow (wed the 31st) and driving the MK48 swapped 5 ton with my Solid Axle swapped Dakota in tow. Super scared but hopefully I will make it there ok, still running the stock air dryer, alternator and...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Now I have a big tire dilemma! I am relocating to San Francisco in a month (maybe) or moving to Knoxville TN in a couple months and I am driving the truck there. Three of the seven tires are good, dated from 2010 and are wearing fine. The rest of the tires are junk dating from 2005-2004...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Ditto, 5' 10" 150lbs here and the footrest is annoying but the stop plate is easy to move, but plenty of headroom so you could always move the seat up.

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

So I got a few things buttoned up, spare tire carrier moved, got a generator on the truck and extended the frame with an extra rear pivot to support the weight of that spare. Ready for adventure! We took the truck out for 4th of july weekend, Ran great on the highway even though it was...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

I have been working on the rear bumper, frame and side skirts, the internal structure of the rear bumper is 1.75" 1/8" wall DOM. The frame was extended 48" with an extra rear pivot for the extra weight of the massive spare and will serve as the recovery/tow point.

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

I have been having fun... A little too much fun, up till midnight working on this thing everyday for the past two weeks. Had a squeaky squeaky noise so I changed the water pump and she has been running great. Took it shooting! Time for the camper, I have been moving SUPER fast, this thing is...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Obtaining registration and insurance has been interesting. I did the normal gulfway route, told them of Allan's existing policy and sent them detailed exterior photos, everything is all fine, the underwriter approved it and sent me the packet to fill out, took a week and a half to get to that...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

I had the chance to buy this monster of a creation from Allan, it is truly amazing that he built this thing in a storage facility making the best use of what resources he had. But yea a breif background; internet addict turned mechanical engineer got a job building prototype tradeshow and...

    M932A2 and Mk-48 Cab conversion

Allan's creation is quite impressive and a massive undertaking with limited resources, it is of excellent quality and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to purchase it from him. A little bit about me, I got started fabricating when I wanted to solid axle swap my Dodge Dakota, it became...
